    August - 20th Anniversary Concert

Two Brothers Roundhouse, 205 N Broadway, Aurora
    See details

August presents a 20th anniversary concert with an all-ages audience in mind. Admission is $20, cash only. The band’s story reaches back to 1972, when it formed as an eight-piece horn outfit with four rhythm players and four horns, performing steadily until 1976 before splitting, with some members continuing under a different name. In 2005 the group decided to reunite with an expanded horn section. Their return to the stage came in 2006 at the pavilion of the venue once known as Walter Payton’s Roundhouse in Aurora, now Two Brothers Roundhouse, a show cut short by a thunderstorm that still set the tone for future performances. In the years that followed, August played throughout the Chicagoland area and appeared three times on WGN-TV’s noon news and entertainment segments between 2009 and 2010, including a visit where WGN newscaster Steve Sanders sat in on guitar. The band released its first album, Second Time Around, in 2010, celebrating at The Roundhouse. Recording took place at Jim Peterik’s World Stage Studios, with a guest spot by Peterik, and mixing by award-winning engineer and musician Larry Millas. A 2013 single, Chicago, Calling Me Home, was recorded at World Stage Studios and written by Paul David Wilson. Both of the band’s release celebrations have been held at the Aurora Roundhouse.

The Venue, 21 S. Broadway Ave, Aurora · verified Aug 16
    See details

The Venue presents Great Moments in Vinyl with a salute to The Doobie Brothers. The performance traces the band’s evolution, from Tom Johnston’s early anthems like Listen to the Music, Long Train Runnin, and China Grove, to Patrick Simmons delivering the first number one with Black Water. The story continues as Jeff Skunk Baxter strengthens the guitar sound and recommends Michael McDonald, whose voice and songwriting bring a fresh spark that keeps the group on the charts and in arenas nationwide. With over 40 million albums sold and touring still on the calendar, the legacy remains strong. This tribute recreates the gritty, road-ready energy of the early years and the smooth, R and B flavored groove that powered Minute by Minute. Expect familiar hits and fan favorites paired with insights into how the songs and records came together, adding new layers to the listening experience.
