A free outdoor concert at Stern’s Plaza in downtown Waukegan spotlights Los Corb during ArtWauk. This high energy Spanish rock group blends its own songs with crowd favorites from Maná, Hombres G, and Los Enanitos Verdes for a set that keeps the audience moving. Honoring both Pride Month and Juneteenth, Threads of Liberation: The Fabric of Our Truth invites reflection on identity, resilience, authenticity, and the many ways creative practice and material storytelling can express liberation. Presented by Dandelion Art Gallery & Studios, NFP, Inc., the exhibition gathers community artists alongside members of the Dandelion Artist Alliance, designers, performers, and other creatives. Works span visual art, fashion, textiles, wearable art, mixed media, sculpture, photography, poetry, music, performance, and additional forms. The focus is on visibility, belonging, and the worth of every story, highlighting perspectives from diverse, historically underrepresented, marginalized, and emerging artists. Guests can explore the exhibition, connect with participating artists during a dedicated meet and greet, and engage in conversations inspired by the art and the personal narratives it carries. An interactive Threads of Liberation Community Weaving Experience invites community participation by writing a word, message, symbol, or reflection on a fabric strip and weaving it into a collaborative artwork that grows throughout the event. Admission is free and welcoming to all ages, backgrounds, identities, and abilities. Donations are appreciated, and art purchases directly support the artists and help sustain Dandelion exhibitions, programming, and community initiatives. The Lake Forest College men’s and women’s volleyball programs are hosting an inaugural grass volleyball tournament at Hixon Field on the Lake Forest College campus. Across two days, three competitions are planned. The first day features separate men’s and women’s triples with upper and lower brackets, identified as A to AA for the upper tier and B to BB for the lower tier. The second day highlights coed quads, also split into upper and lower brackets. Every participant receives a T-shirt with signup, with the final design to be announced, and concessions plus a food truck or two will be available on site. Throughout the weekend, speakers and demonstrators share teachings about culture and traditions. Dancers from every category are welcome, and showcase songs give participants a chance to share their steps. Drum groups, from first-timers to seasoned singers, are welcome to take part.
