Owensboro Museum of Science & HistoryB.A.S.E. - Fall Prevention Classes
Healthpark offers a 12-week small group, supervised exercise program focused on improving gait, balance, stability, and muscle strength to help reduce the risk of falls. Known as B.A.S.E. (Balance Awareness Stability Everywhere), this fall prevention class combines targeted training with education to support safer movement. Participants should be able to walk without heavy reliance on a walker or other mobility devices. The program requires consistent attendance at two one-hour classes each week for 12 weeks, plus six educational sessions or shared medical visits during that period. A physician’s medical clearance is required, and participants consent to pre-program testing to determine eligibility and post-program testing to measure progress. In a pilot group, individuals who completed the class reported fewer falls, increased confidence with less fear of falling, and gains in strength, stamina, and endurance. The cost is tied to the insurance expense for six co-pays to a regular family medical provider, which covers the six education sessions and shared medical appointments with a Lifestyle Medicine Physician.
