Halloween 2026 - A Silent Film & Live Music Experience

New Orleans · Marigny Opera House, 725 St Ferdinand St

Silent-era cinema meets live sound in a Halloween program at the Marigny Opera House. Two haunting works from the early years of film are paired with an original score by Jeff Pagano for string quartet and electronics, performed live. Charles Klein’s 1928 The Tell-Tale Heart adapts Edgar Allan Poe into a nerve-tightening portrait of guilt, as a killer cannot escape the imagined throb of a buried heartbeat. Louis Feuillade’s 1915 Les Vampires, Episode 3, Irma Vep, starring Musidora, follows its enigmatic antiheroine as she attempts a bold crime while journalist Philippe Guérande draws near to the gang’s secret world. The music comes to life with Kate Walter on violin, Elizabeth Crute Cunha on violin, Sixto Franco on viola, and Jake Fowler on cello, with B. Danos and Jeff Pagano shaping the electronic textures. Psychological fright and surreal intrigue converge in an immersive evening inside one of New Orleans’ most atmospheric venues, where shadows stir and certainty slips away.
