Designed for teenagers in Lafayette ages 14 years 9 months to 17, this weekend driver education program provides the 38 hours needed to pursue a learner’s permit or driver’s license. Classroom instruction takes place on Saturday and Sunday across two weekends, and the 8 hours of behind-the-wheel training are scheduled separately based on availability. All driving sessions are one-on-one. Students receive a defensive driving certificate valued at $50, which may qualify for an insurance discount depending on the insurer. Southwest Auto Title offers an in-house privatized DMV service that can handle ID upgrades and testing for permits and licenses, allowing training and licensing to be completed in one location. Road skills test and ID fees are not included in course fees. Classes fill quickly, so early registration is recommended.

Night Two of Downtown Rising lights up Parc International in downtown Lafayette with a vibrant celebration of music, culture, and community. The lineup includes Anders Osborne, Dumpstaphunk, Flow Tribe, Skye Isaac, and DJ RV, bringing soulful rock, deep funk, high-energy sets, and hometown talent that capture the spirit of the event. For the first time, Downtown Rising spans two full nights, with the other night featuring Big Freedia, Boyfriend, Void, Kidd Love, DJ RO, and DJ Snuz Butt'n, creating the largest Downtown Rising weekend yet. Bayou Vermilion District and Vermilionville present their weekly Bal du Dimanche, a live music dance series in Vermilionville’s Performance Center and rustic dancehall. This edition features Julian Primeaux. Admission is $12 and includes a self-guided tour of the Vermilionville Living History Museum. La Cuisine de Maman, the on-site restaurant, serves authentic Cajun and Creole cuisine and offers an all-you-can-eat Sunday buffet. The performance is broadcast live on KRVS Public Media. Admission to the series is included with a Bayou Vermilion District and Vermilionville membership, and proceeds support the organizations’ local, environmental, and cultural missions.
