A weekend driver’s education course in Lafayette is available for teens ages 14 years 9 months through 17. The program totals 38 hours, which meets the requirement for a teenager to work toward a learner’s permit or driver’s license. Classroom instruction is held across two weekends, and the behind the wheel portion is arranged separately based on availability. All driving sessions are conducted one on one. Participants complete 30 hours in the classroom and 8 hours behind the wheel, and they receive a defensive driving certificate valued at $50 that may qualify for an auto insurance discount depending on the insurer. A convenient one stop option is offered through Southwest Auto Title with privatized DMV services for ID upgrades, testing, and obtaining a learner’s permit or driver’s license, so the training and licensing steps can be handled in the same place. Road skills test and ID fees are not included in the course price.
