Important policies and safety notes from Sips and Sparks apply. Background checks are not conducted and identities are not verified, so each attendee is responsible for personal safety and due diligence. Unity House, 245 Porter Lake Dr, Longmeadow, MA 01106-1248, United States, 245 Porter Lake Dr, Longmeadow · verified Oct 11
    See details

Why’s It Gotta Be? Theater Group presents William Shakespeare’s spirited tale of tangled affections, enchanted mischief, and theatrical ambition. Hermia loves Lysander, yet a guardian demands she wed Demetrius. Helena, unwavering and tenderhearted, chases Demetrius even as he spurns her. Faced with a dire ultimatum from the Duke, Hermia and Lysander slip away to a nearby forest, with Demetrius and Helena in pursuit. Meanwhile, a band of earnest artisans prepares a play for Theseus and Hippolyta and chooses the same wood for rehearsal, where Oberon and Titania rule a realm of magic that turns every encounter into a delightful snarl of mistaken identities and bewitchment. This production embraces gender-blind casting to illuminate queer themes and explores the unruly forces of love, desire, friendship, jealousy, possession, and magic. Featured performers include Julia Adamo as Hermia, Aaron Williams as Lysander, Heath Trudell as Demetrius, Devin Dumas as Helena, Chandler Frantz as Titania, Freya Andromeda as Oberon, Melina Garcia as Robin Goodfellow, Terry Fables as Nick Bottom, Beetle Dionne as Theseus, and Joana Tulik as Hippolyta, with additional roles portrayed by Garrett Adamtsev, Matthew Gover, Joe Lessard, K. Zdepski, Ace Tayloe, TJ LaLonde, Liv Lauren, Kennedy Prashaw, Hannah McCluskey, and others. Directed by Isabella Bonavita, with stage management by Hannah Labreche and assistant stage management by Devin Dumas. Dramaturgy is by Mal Sillars, costumes by Giganta Smalls, sound design by Devin Dumas, and artwork by Mimi Weatherbee. Presented at Unity House.
