Playback Theatre invites participants to share moments from their lives and then experience those stories reflected through movement, sound, emotion, and image. The process welcomes subconscious and mysterious elements to surface as everyone explores where they are on their path. Movement, inner and outer characters, costume, objects, and the symbolic images that circulate in the psyche help reveal both the familiar and the unknown. Participants are invited to consider how relationships, social identities, and archetypal forces shape their experience. Through enactment the focus shifts from excessive talking to essence and feeling, allowing a vivid shared image to emerge and trust to grow. Sharing and witnessing stories cultivates empathetic listening to one another and to the larger questions that hold the group. Creativity and clarity take shape, and seeing your story played back or playing back for others can be deeply moving. Longer stories may include questions, direction from the teller, alternate endings, or the involvement of others. Please bring evocative objects or props to use. In a field driven by passion, resilience, and long hours, many workers face intense stress and burnout without the support they need. Funds raised will help build stronger workplaces, healthier communities, and a culture that treats mental health with the seriousness it deserves. Support from people within the industry, those who care about someone who works in it, and anyone committed to standing up for others makes a direct difference, honoring the people who take care of all of us.

The route features local examples while tracing the shift away from the ornate, mass-produced fashions of the Victorian era and the ways British ideas made their way to the United States in the early 1900s. Admission is $5 for Springfield Preservation Trust and Springfield Museums members and $10 for nonmembers, with payment available in advance on Eventbrite or at the start of the tour. Presented as part of the Second Saturday Tours series highlighting historic Springfield, the program is co-presented by the Springfield Preservation Trust, Springfield Museums, and Springfield Libraries and is supported by the Springfield Cultural Council and the Mass Cultural Council. The walk is led by Bob McCarroll, a longtime advocate for Springfield’s historic resources whose service dates to the 1970s. His background includes decades with the Springfield Planning Department helping establish early local historic districts, eleven years on the Springfield Historical Commission, and membership on the Springfield Community Preservation Committee. He has served on the Springfield Preservation Trust board for more than 45 years, organizing house tours and self-guided walking brochures and coordinating preservation grant projects. He is a longtime resident of the Mattoon Street Historic District and coordinates the Mattoon Street Arts Festival, the region’s oldest arts and crafts show. He holds a Bachelor of Arts from the College of William and Mary and a Master of City and Regional Planning from Rutgers University, and his honors include the Massachusetts Historical Commission Local Preservationist Award, Preservation Massachusetts K. Julie McCarthy Community Spirit Award, the Order of William Pynchon, and the Mass History Alliance Bay State Legacy Award.

The Autumn meeting of the Agawam Historical Association features a talk by historical archaeologist Bob Drinkwater that looks at the makers behind the gravestones found in Agawam’s oldest burial grounds. Drawing on his recent book about western Massachusetts carvers active from the early 1700s to the mid 1800s, he will connect distinctive carving styles to specific artisans and highlight examples in Agawam’s historic cemeteries, where nearly five dozen Revolutionary War veterans are interred. Drinkwater holds an MA in anthropology from UMass Amherst and has spent more than four decades documenting, photographing, and reporting on eighteenth and early nineteenth century gravestones and the stonecutters of the Connecticut River Valley. As a charter member of the Association for Gravestone Studies, he has published scholarly articles, organized and presented at conferences, and served in leadership roles. Created for little ones, teens, and everyone in between, the session introduces a family journal you can continue adding to over time while encouraging time outdoors. Participants will slow down to notice seasonal changes and discover how everyday natural finds can become subjects to talk about, write, and draw together. As a fall bonus, participants will make leaf rubbings and leaf prints using washable watercolors and tempera paints. All supplies are provided for the family journal as well as the leaf rubbings and prints. Leslie’s background blends contemplative practice, librarianship, and outdoor education. She has published two books of nature poetry, with work featured in Artemis Journal and in exhibits and contests from Connecticut to Maine and beyond, and she leads mindful nature journaling and nature-inspired art classes throughout Connecticut and online, including painting with natural objects, watercolor, acrylics, and poetry.

Hitchcock Harvest celebrates sustainability with local food and drinks in the Brew Garden and hands-on learning throughout the Hitchcock Center, rain or shine. For more than 60 years, the Hitchcock Center has advanced environmental education in the Valley, and this gathering highlights that legacy through interactive stations inspired by the Living Building petals: Place, Water, Energy, Health and Happiness, Materials, Equity, and Beauty. Attendees can see how local innovators and the Center are shaping a resilient future, respond to prompts at each station and add reflections to a collaborative art piece. Collecting a stamp from all seven stations earns a full drink and an entry into a raffle.

The four-day Polyphony Fest concludes with a concert highlighting harmony-rich traditions from around the globe. Jami Delia first met Dylan as a child on the lawn of the original Woodstock Playhouse, grew up in Woodstock, and now calls Western Massachusetts home, and that lifelong connection informs this production. The performance spans Dylan’s songs from the 1960s through contemporary interpretations tied to artists such as Chrissie Hynde, Marcus King, and Miley Cyrus. Guest appearances include Peter Newland of FAT, Paul Dawiki of the Blushing Brides, Janet Ryan of Janet Ryan and Straight Up, and Mark Downie of Retro Floyd. Enjoy a foliage walk featuring sweeping views of the valley to the west. The route covers approximately two and a half miles with both uphill and downhill sections. Meet at the rear of Somers Town Hall to carpool to the site. On clear days, the lookout can reveal a broad panorama across the Connecticut River Valley that may include the Hartford skyline to the south, the Hanging Hills near Meriden, the Hublein Tower on the southwestern horizon, the Silo Nursery in Somers during the day, distant Mount Greylock beyond Springfield, and farther north the outlines of Mt. Along an old tote road near the viewpoint, a massive boulder supports a living patchwork of small birches, grasses, sparse flowers, blackberry vines, poison ivy, and ferns, with a nearby oak gripping its side. Two clusters of unexplained pits sit close to the overlook, one across from the boulder and another along the yellow trail through a hemlock grove to the northeast, and their origin remains a mystery. Taking place in Simsbury, Connecticut, the program features USATF certified 5k and 10k road races along with 1 mile and 1/2 mile races for kids. The course is very flat, following smooth roads that pass parks, the Farmington River, scenic farms, and residential neighborhoods. Bassist Trevor Hutchinson made his mark with The Waterboys, then teamed with guitarist Donogh Hennessy in The Sharon Shannon Band. The guitar role is now filled by Ed Boyd, known for his work with Flook and the Michael McGoldrick Band. All-Ireland champion fiddler Sean Smyth has performed with Donal Lunny’s Coolfin. Flutist Kevin Crawford, often cited among Ireland’s finest, previously played with Moving Cloud. Uilleann piper Cillian Vallely, from the renowned Vallely family, has appeared with Riverdance and has a recording credit with Bruce Springsteen. Together they offer music rooted in tradition and shaped by wide-ranging experience.

2nd Home Lounge hosts harmonica player Rich Badowski for his first solo appearance at the venue. Inspired by his father, he picked up the harmonica early and has been playing ever since. His performance leans into down-home blues and branches out to Americana, country, jazz, R&B, funk, gospel, movie themes and original material, with storytelling and light comedy woven in for a lively, hootenanny-style set. Badowski is a two-time finalist in the Connecticut Blues Society Blues Band Challenge, in 2013 and 2018, and has twice performed at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

At Symphony Hall, The United European Ballet Company presents the beloved tale of Cinderella, presented by Classical Arts Entertainment. The Holcomb Hill Billy’s return to 2nd Home for their fourth annual end of year bash, a festive sendoff to the season. The night is set to close out the year on a high note with the band back on stage. Reservations are encouraged but not required, as last year’s event sold out.

The Iron Horse presents a solstice concert featuring Low Lily with guests Natalie Padilla and Russell McCumber. A pre-show bar and event queue are planned. Low Lily brings together Liz Simmons, Flynn Cohen, and newest member Lily Sexton, weaving close harmonies with guitar, banjo, mandolin, and fiddle. Active since 2015, the trio draws on North American fiddle and song traditions as well as the broader Anglo-Celtic lineage, shaping a mix of lively fiddle tunes, reflective folk, bluegrass, and Americana. The group has performed widely across the US, UK, and Canada. Their recordings include two number one tracks on international folk radio and two Independent Music Awards, and their song Hope Lingers On, written by former member Lissa Schneckenburger, has been sung by choirs around the world as an anthem for peace and justice. Tickets start at $24 with fees included, and prices rise on the day of the show.

A Stern Army and IFPA pinball tournament presented by Game Changer Amusements, in collaboration with The Shortstop Bar & Grill and Par 4 The Course. This December edition of the monthly series welcomes players of all ages and skill levels and features prizes and giveaways. The format includes two hours of match play qualifying followed by a ladder finals, with the number of finalists based on attendance. The champion takes home the Game Changer trophy and a Stern Pinball translite. Entry fee is $5 plus coin drop.
