5th Annual TTMD 3 Person Team 8-Ball Championship

The New Green Room Billiards, 2401 North Point Blvd, Dundalk · verified Oct 11
    See details

A three person team 8-ball championship brings a full weekend of competitive play with a player auction held before matches begin. Individuals without a team are welcome to participate in the auction, and competition starts immediately after it concludes. Up to 32 teams can enter at $120 per team, with $15 allocated to the greens fee and the balance paid out to the field. A Calcutta is included with a 100 percent payout and no fee taken from players. Teams must complete check in by the stated deadline or risk being moved to a waiting list and potentially losing their spot, and entry fees are not refundable for lateness. Once play is underway, any team that fails to report to its assigned table within 15 minutes will forfeit. Each roster consists of three players with a maximum team FargoRate of 1450, and only one player rated 600 or higher is allowed per team. Players without a FargoRate will be assigned a rating after research with local and regional tournament directors, which may take a few days. The tournament reserves the right to adjust a player’s skill level based on known ability and robustness. The format is double elimination, with the A side raced to 7 and the B side raced to 5. Team captains flip a coin, and the winner decides which side posts first. There are no skill restrictions on order of play. The first game begins with a lag to determine the breaker. For the second game, the opposing team posts its player. Each game won is worth one point. This is a winners break format, and the next player in rotation takes the break. After the third game, the order reverts to the first player and remains fixed until a team reaches the required points for the bracket side. Each team is allowed one timeout per rack. World standardized 8-ball rules are in effect. Call pocket and cue ball foul only. A miscue or an illegal break, defined as fewer than four balls contacting a rail, results in a turnover. A game cannot be won or lost on the break. A scratch on the break places the cue ball behind the head string. The table is open after the break, and a ball must be pocketed legally to establish stripes or solids. When shooting at the 8-ball, a scratch or foul is not a loss if the 8-ball is not pocketed or jumped from the table, and the incoming player receives ball in hand. A combination shot cannot be used to legally pocket the 8-ball. If a ball other than the cue ball is accidentally moved, the opponent may choose to replace it or leave it, and if replacement is chosen it must be restored to its prior position. Abuse of this rule results in disqualification from any further TTMD events. Standard requirements apply regarding contacting your group first and then a rail, and pocket safeties are permitted. Additional clarifications may be added as questions arise.

South Baltimore Community Land Trust is offering a free community workshop focused on renter rights, housing safety, and stability. Participants will learn what legal protections tenants have, where to seek help for problems with living conditions, how to document concerns and advocate effectively, and when it makes sense to escalate unresolved issues. The session is led by Detrese Dowridge, executive director of Baltimore Renters United, an organization that works with tenants across Baltimore City to improve rental safety for individuals and families. This program is part of SBCLT’s six-part monthly stewardship series, which covers financial readiness for renters and buyers, the homebuying journey with SBCLT, the trust’s path to ownership, financing through a community land trust, renter protections and stability, and guidance for sustaining success after a purchase. SBCLT advances housing without pushing residents out by rehabilitating vacant properties and building new homes on unused land. Homes created through the trust remain affordable over the long term, expanding opportunity for generations. The organization’s vision centers on strong, healthy neighborhoods in South Baltimore and infrastructure that supports the environment and local economies. In this model, stewardship means ongoing support for first-time buyers before, during, and after purchase, including connections to mission-aligned real estate professionals, leadership development for community members, and referrals to repair providers who share a commitment to zero waste practices.

Dirty Grass Players w/ Radish at The Recher!

    Towson · verified Oct 11
    See details

The Dirty Grass Players bring their boundary-pushing bluegrass to The Recher in Towson, performing alongside Radish. Based in Baltimore, the band has explored the leading edge of the genre since 2015, pairing tradition-rooted harmonies with daring improvisation. Whether stretching a tune into an expansive jam or firing off a concise classic, they balance progress and heritage with crisp musicianship and a touch of grit. What began as jams between founders Ben Kolakowski on guitar and Ryan Rogers on mandolin quickly grew into a Baltimore buzz, then national and European touring. Their festival stops include Grey Fox, DelFest, Dark Star Jubilee, ROMP, Bristol Rhythm & Roots, and the Rotterdam Bluegrass Festival. With Connor Murray on bass since 2021 and Sam Guthridge joining on banjo in 2024, the current lineup arrives with fresh momentum. The group has released two albums and multiple singles. Their latest album, Shiny Side Up, produced by Cody Kilby of the Travelin' McCourys, ventures into darker themes and adventurous arrangements, earning recognition for affirming the band’s rise and pointing to a bright future for bluegrass. Their first single with the new lineup reimagines Jimi Hendrix’s Voodoo Child (Slight Return) as a driving bluegrass piece that proves looking to the roots can inspire new directions. Sharing the bill, Radish is a Baltimore string band that blends classic and contemporary bluegrass influences with a flair for avant garde improvisation. The ensemble features Chris Ackerman on bass, Sam Allen on banjo, Sam Cochran on guitar, Wyatt Graham on mandolin, and Matthew Zuckerman on dobro. Their debut self-titled album is available on streaming platforms. Presented by 24-7 Entertainment.
