Presented by The Gem Theater, MOFF screens an evening of short films that celebrate Maine’s people and places while reflecting on stewardship, adventure, and community. The program features stories of a lobstering family on Deer Isle responding to warming seas and microplastics with help from a local researcher exploring plastic-free aquaculture, a portrait of a lifelong hot air balloon pilot who also serves as New England’s last balloon repair specialist, a crew of elder divers removing underwater trash and finding connection in the process, and a coastal sailing journey that links the freedom to explore with caring for the shoreline that makes it possible. After a brief break, the lineup continues with the renewal of the Kennebec River through restoration efforts, a meditative look at a salt marsh and an artist at work accompanied by an original score from Lee Ranaldo, and a tribute to the first woman to complete a winter traverse of New Hampshire’s Presidential Range through her own recollections. The screening runs about two hours and includes a 10-minute intermission. Admission is $15, with a youth price of $8 for ages 12 and under. MOFF follows Leave No Trace ethics at all screenings.

This American Red Cross blood drive supports patients during a significant nationwide shortage, with hospitals in the region relying on donors more than ever. About every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood or platelets, including accident victims and people receiving cancer care or surgery. A single contribution can help as many as three people, and because only a small portion of eligible individuals donate each year, every donor makes a real difference. The donation process is simple. The time actually spent giving blood is typically around eight to ten minutes, and most visits wrap up in about an hour. Afterward, donors take a brief break with snacks and refreshments. To make the experience smoother, stay well hydrated and choose iron-rich foods in the days leading up to your appointment. Consider bringing a friend for support, and complete Red Cross RapidPass on donation day to help shorten your visit.

A three-hour interactive childbirth workshop invites first-time pregnant patients and their birth partners to build confidence and prepare for labor and delivery. The session explores relaxation, breathing and distraction techniques, a range of labor positions, strategies for managing pain and discomfort, and a step-by-step look at the stages of labor and what to expect during birth. Participants can share questions and concerns with the instructor to help ease anxiety. The class also covers how to recognize when labor has begun and when to call the doctor, the differences between vaginal and surgical deliveries, key terminology, comfort measures, equipment you may encounter, and options for medications and interventions. Educational videos are included, and light refreshments are provided.
