The first three finishers from each heat are pulled aside, then all those qualifiers return for a final race to decide the overall top three. Cash prizes are awarded to the overall top three and to the winner of every heat. Tickets are available until sold out.
Consumers Energy 78th AuSable River Canoe Marathon
The Consumers Energy 78th AuSable River Canoe Marathon begins in Grayling with a pre-race program on the banks of the AuSable River, emceed by Camren Wilson-Money alongside special guests. The program debuts new features and leads into paddler introductions. The starting gun then launches a Le Mans style run through the streets to the river, where teams of two set off and paddle nonstop for roughly 14 to 19 hours to the finish in Oscoda, totaling about 50,000 to 70,000 paddle strokes. A livestream broadcast will share the start for those following from home.

This program spotlights Jeffrey M. Holden, a 2026 Notable Books of Michigan honoree and author of Dead Moose on Isle Royale: Off Trail with the Citizen Scientists of the Wolf-Moose Project. The book follows Holden and teams of citizen scientists through the remote backcountry of Isle Royale National Park as they locate and study moose remains, contending with rough weather, demanding terrain, wildlife, and ever-heavier packs of collected bones. Their efforts support a long-term study of relationships among moose, wolves, climate, and parasites, and the narrative pairs vivid off-trail travel with scientific insights and the distinctive rewards of contributing to the Wolf-Moose Project. Support is provided by the Library of Michigan, the Library of Michigan Foundation, and Michigan Humanities, an affiliate of the National Endowment of the Humanities.

Men’s brackets are organized into three weight classes: up to 145 pounds, up to 190 pounds, and heavyweight. The women’s field is planned as an absolute bracket that includes all weights. If there are fewer than six competitors, medals are awarded. With seven or more, the champion earns $100, and medals go to second and third. Participants will identify and harvest plants to create herbal oils, then combine those oils with a few simple ingredients to make topical salves. Up North CoffeeCCN Car Show and Craft Fair
The 5th annual CCN Car Show and Craft Fair returns to Clare Church of the Nazarene with a full day of automotive fun and community activities. The event welcomes cars, trucks, motorcycles, rat rods, and vintage campers from 1980 or earlier, and it will take place regardless of the weather. In honor of America 250, participants are encouraged to display a USA flag by their vehicle. Expect a large turnout with more than 250 vehicles, live music featuring Elvis tunes performed by Jake Slater, four food trucks, a silent auction, a sizable craft fair, a scaled model showcase, kids Matchbox drag racing and coloring, event T-shirts and more. Public viewing, parking and shopping are free. Registration for cars, trucks and bikes is $20, while vintage trailers are admitted at no charge. Free coffee and donuts will be available for car show participants, and the first 200 registered will receive dash plaques. Pre-registered entrants will be entered into a drawing for a bucket of car-related goodies. The day concludes with an awards ceremony recognizing winners with more than 90 trophies. Proceeds support MomCo of Clare and Farwell Stone Soup Kitchen.
Clare Church of the NazareneStone Soup Women's Retreat
Inspired by the Stone Soup fable, this women-only retreat centers on community, generosity, and shared wisdom. Participants help create a communal soup for the main meal, with two pots prepared, including a vegetarian option. Everyone is invited to contribute a skill or passion to the circle, such as sharing a favorite recipe, reading a poem, offering music, card readings, yoga, tai chi, crystal bowl sound, or crafting essential oil blends. Sharing is optional, and simply attending to enjoy the experience is welcome. A small contribution of about a half cup of vegetables, grains, or beans in a resealable bag is encouraged for the soup. The setting is a private 80-acre wooded property with a building for meals and workshops, a large studio, and the Earth Wisdom Medicine Lodge for healing work, journeys, ceremonies, and more. A salad lunch is provided along with drinks and snacks, and breakfast is available for those who stay overnight. Two refrigerators are on site for guest use. Camping is free and encouraged, and weather permitting a bonfire will be available for campers. Instruments like drums, rattles, flutes, or guitars are welcome. The fee is 50 dollars, payable in advance to reserve a spot. Cancellations made before the stated deadline are fully refundable, and after that point payments are nonrefundable. Creepin’ It Real Weekend!
This Halloween themed weekend is filled with family friendly fun and a touch of spooky charm. Activities feature a costume contest and trick or treating throughout the campground. There are competitions for the best decorated golf cart and the best decorated campsite. Brave guests can test their nerves on a haunted trail, then visit the Magic Pumpkin and Lucky Pumpkin patches to discover what surprises await. It is a lively celebration where Halloween magic and a little mischief come to life.

Set against the historic 130-year-old mill at Johnston Elevator, this seasonal market brings together artisans and merchants with a from-the-farm feel. Browse hand-crafted goods, vintage treasures, repurposed decor, boutique finds, and farm-fresh products while live local musicians perform. Food trucks will be on site with samples to try. General admission is $5 at the gate, with children 12 and under admitted free. Early bird tickets are $10 when purchased in advance through the event link and include an hour of relaxed shopping plus a gift bag of goodies. Visitors can also explore nearby downtown shops before or after the market.

Celebrate the end of the season with a Halloween-themed weekend filled with favorite traditions. Kids and adults can trick-or-treat around the campground, get creative with Halloween crafts, and compete in a costume contest that includes a Best Group Costume category. Campsites can be transformed into haunted showstoppers for the Best Decorated Site contest. The Glow Monster Mash Dance Party keeps the energy high. The Magic Pumpkin Patch awaits, along with friendly pumpkin painting and carving competitions. It is a final, fright-filled sendoff before the gates close for the year.
