Visitors can meet artists Michael Pfleghaar and Tommy Allen, explore the studio, and spend time in a longtime Grand Rapids creative hub that has been active since 1989. Pieces span intimate small transfers shown in NYC to large-format Polaroids created through a process that pushed, and at times creatively hacked, the possibilities of instant film. Michael Pfleghaar highlights recent additions of two works to the Grand Rapids Art Museum’s permanent collection. He shares new landscape paintings alongside interior-themed pieces and ceramics, with select archival ceramics available at special pricing for those preparing for the holidays. Kylee Phillips and more

The Stray, 4253 Division Ave S, Grand Rapids · verified Oct 9
    See details

A ticketed night at The Stray features Michigan singer and songwriter Kylee Phillips alongside the Grace Theisen Trio in a focused listening-room atmosphere in Grand Rapids. Kylee marks the release of her first full-length album, Before I Am Invisible, a set of emotionally candid pop anthems that blend Midwestern sincerity with expansive, polished production. The music channels catharsis and uplift in equal measure, nodding to artists like Muna and Maggie Rogers while asserting a voice that will not be talked over. Grace Theisen, a queer artist from Kalamazoo, brings her self-described Androgynous Americana, moving fluidly through Americana, folk, blues, pop, and rock with global influences. Her songwriting spans the vulnerability of coming out and the drive for social justice, balanced by songs centered on joy, connection, and resilience. Her tracks Behind the Rain and Wild Wild Woman have appeared on Spotify’s Home At Last playlist, and her Master of Fire video earned recognition at the Toronto Women’s Film Festival and screened at Hell’s Half Mile. She has performed at major Michigan festivals and is also a member of The Rebel Eves. The Stray pairs craft beer, coffee, and wine with a full dinner menu and cultivates an intimate environment where artists remain the focus. The venue commonly asks guests to silence phones and keep conversations low out of respect for the performers and audience. Discounted advance tickets are available online.

Anazeh Sands Billiards, 1339 28th St SW, Wyoming · verified Oct 9
    See details

Anazeh Sands West will host a singles qualifier featuring separate 8-ball and 9-ball brackets open to all skill levels. Brackets are grouped by skill as turnout allows, with double elimination when there are enough players. If the field reaches sixteen, a splash board may be used to qualify five players. The two disciplines will not begin at the same time, with 8-ball starting first and 9-ball following later. Players may pre-register online or sign up on site. For each discipline, check in must be completed at the venue before boards are drawn so play can start on schedule. Look for Heather Merrick or Kelly Hildebrand at registration. The entry is 50 dollars plus a 5 dollar greens fee for double elimination, payable by cash or check. Players entering both 8-ball and 9-ball pay the greens fee only once. Venmo is not accepted. If a bracket has fewer than five players, the format changes to single elimination with a 25 dollar entry plus greens. Final formats and board sizes are set after registration closes based on participation. Eligibility requires being on the fall roster for the discipline you wish to play and having ten league scores in that format within the past two years. Winners advance to a free regional event that is also divided by skill level, and top finishers there move on to the Poolplayer Championships in Las Vegas. For questions, contact Heather Merrick at 616-889-3909.

    Jon Hayes

The Stray, 4253 Division Ave S, Grand Rapids
    See details

An intimate, ticketed concert at The Stray in Grand Rapids brings together Kalamazoo songwriter Jon Hayes with Grand Rapids artists Megan Stark and Rusty Vining. Hayes pairs a soulful vocal style with frank, story-driven writing that recalls John Mayer along with the indie folk sensibilities of Bon Iver and NEEDTOBREATHE. His debut album, Between You & Me, arrived in physical form this year and features Nursery Lie, which earned 10,000 streams in its first six months, and a title track welcomed by listeners and indie folk playlists, all rooted in songs that put aside pretense to share unguarded thoughts and feelings. Stark is a Grand Rapids singer songwriter who released her first album last year and saw one of its songs featured on Q 94.5. Her work explores questions, doubt and fear while reaching for hope, drawing inspiration from artists such as Passenger, Paul Simon, Jon Foreman, Roo Panes and Gregory Alan Isakov. She writes to encourage connection and to remind listeners that light can be found even in uncertain moments. Vining blends folk, rock and Americana roots through inventive storytelling, personal openness and a distinctive guitar approach matched with gritty, soulful vocals. His album Already Not Yet features Rusty Vining & His Friends, winners of The Stray’s 2025 Battle of the Bands, with layered arrangements of violin, upright bass, drums, fingerstyle guitar and lively accordion and keys that give the project a cinematic Americana feel. His recent solo EP, Memories, addresses parenthood, childhood, grief and change with concise, emotionally direct songs whose textures nod to Elliott Smith and Springsteen’s Nebraska while occasionally introducing unexpected sounds. For this show he appears solo for the first time in about three years, drawing from across his catalog and sharing new and unreleased material. The Stray is a music and arts cafe in Grand Rapids that offers craft beer, coffee and wine, with a kitchen serving a full dinner menu. The space is curated for attentive listening where artists remain the focus, and attendees are often asked to silence phones and keep conversations low out of respect. Discounted advance tickets are available online.
