All flutists are welcome at a relaxed flute ensemble sight reading gathering at Riverside Park in Grand Rapids. This is the second session in WMFA’s two part summer series, Flutes On the River, celebrating West Michigan rivers and their park views. Participants can explore new repertoire, connect with fellow flute enthusiasts, and make music along the Grand River. Advance registration is preferred so parts can be assigned and music shared ahead of time, but walk ins are welcome. Attendees should bring a music stand, some music, a folding chair if they would like to sit, and their flute. Bringing a friend is encouraged.

Musicians from West Michigan gather at Meijer Gardens for Sunday Strings, a live classical chamber music series presented by Hill Island Financial and created by Haijin Choi. Let’s Go Fishing features Schubert’s Trout Quintet paired with a quintet by American composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich. Performing are Jaewon Seo on violin, Arturo Ziraldo on viola, Igor Cetkovic on cello, Emily Grabinski on piano, and Ryan Bassett on double bass. The concert is held in the Huizenga Grand Room and is included with admission to Meijer Gardens.

Tommy Stinson headlines Tip Top Deluxe Bar & Grill with Karla Rose and her full band, plus Little Venom. A Minneapolis native with more than four decades in music, Stinson was a founding and lifelong member of The Replacements, played a key second-generation role with Guns N’ Roses, and spent seven years with Soul Asylum. He has also led his own groups and appeared on recordings by the Old 97s, MOTH, and BT. His current project, Cowboys in the Campfire with Chip Roberts, introduced the debut album WRONGER, a ten-song set that blends twang, grit, and sharp melodies. The opener Here We Go Again features ukulele and swelling horns with nothing but the musicians’ foot taps for percussion, while other tracks range from rough-and-tumble rockabilly to a shuffle evoking the Folsom Prison era. Hues of Nashville and Bakersfield color songs like Mr. Wrong and Fall Apart Together, and pieces such as Schemes, Souls, and Dream highlight his pop craftsmanship. Tickets are $25, with a limited VIP option at $100.

Monday nights feature live jazz from the John Shea Trio alongside oyster and drink specials. Raw Blue Point oysters are $2 each, and $5 oyster shooters are made with house-infused jalapeño vodka. Miller Highlife bottles are $2, sparkling wine by the glass is half price, and bottles of bubbly are 20 percent off. There is no cover, and booking a table in advance is encouraged.

Concerts in the Park features a free, all-ages outdoor performance by Kyle Brown and Nina Sofia at John Collins Park, with scenic views of Reeds Lake. Attendees may bring lawn chairs or blankets for comfortable seating. If severe or inclement weather occurs, the concert may be canceled without a make-up date, and updates will be shared on the EGR Parks and Recreation Facebook page. Park guidelines apply, including no barbecues, grilling, or open flames, dogs kept on leash, and no alcohol unless permitted under EGR Social District rules. Sister Midnight and Grand Rapids Film Society present an evening that pairs a live set from Circle Jerks with a screening of the cult favorite Repo Man, followed by a Q&A featuring director Alex Cox with Keith Morris and Zander Schloss. Formed in 1979 out of LA’s South Bay, Circle Jerks came together when Keith Morris, after co-founding and fronting Black Flag during the Nervous Breakdown EP, teamed with guitarist Greg Hetson alongside early members Roger Rogerson and Lucky Lehrer. Known for a fierce, tightly focused sound and incisive lyrics, the band rose to the forefront of American hardcore, headlining the 5,000 capacity Olympic Auditorium in Los Angeles and appearing in underground staples such as The Decline of Western Civilization, Repo Man, New Wave Theatre, and The Slog Movie. Over the decades they released six studio albums, including Group Sex, Wild in the Streets, Golden Shower of Hits, Wonderful, and IV, becoming a major headliner during the alternative boom of the 80s and 90s. Between hiatuses, Morris performed with OFF! and FLAG, while Hetson played with Bad Religion. Longtime bassist Zander Schloss and veteran drummer Joey Castillo round out the lineup. Repo Man, a 1984 sci fi comedy directed by Alex Cox, runs 92 minutes and is rated R. The story follows a young punk who is pulled into the world of car repossession and swept up in the hunt for a Chevrolet Malibu carrying a $20,000 bounty, with something otherworldly hidden in its trunk.

GLC Live at 20 Monroe presents the Happy Together Tour 2026, a concert open to all ages and featuring a 2026 lineup that includes The Association, The Troggs, Jason Scheff, Chicago’s lead singer from 1985 to 2016, Gary Puckett, The Fortunes, Ron Dante of The Archies and The Turtles, The Vogues, and The Cowsills. Supporting artists may change without notice. Tickets are available through a public onsale, with presales for Citi cardmembers, Ticketmaster, Live Nation, and the local venue, and VIP packages are offered.

Food Truck Fridays returns for its 10th season, bringing a family friendly summer tradition to Grand Rapids with around 20 food trucks, an artisan village, a beer tent, and live music each week. New for 2026, public parking will be available on the grass next to the event space, adding more accessible and additional handicapped parking and more spots close by. Bicycle parking is set up at the southern entrance for those who prefer to ride. Pick up the Food Truck Fridays Almanac at the Creston Neighborhood Association office, Community Cat Crew in Grandville, Underground Cookie Club in Kentwood, or at the event for truck lineups, band schedules, and other details. Frequent Fridays Cards are back at the GR8 Food Trucks Tent. Attendees can collect a free stamp each week and turn in their cards at the end of the summer for entry into prize drawings, with no purchase necessary. The beer tent will be open each week in 2026 in partnership with area nonprofits to help raise funds. Folias Duo and August the Duo share one stage at The Stray for a co-bill featuring longtime friends and their original music. Flutist and composer Carmen Maret and guitarist and composer Andrew Bergeron perform as Folias Duo, while vocalists and multi-instrumentalists Olivia Vargas and Marissa Peak appear as August the Duo. Each group offers its own set, then the four artists perform together. The evening also marks the official release of Great Lakes, the ninth album from Folias Duo, a song cycle inspired by each of the five Great Lakes. It is the first chance to take a copy home, with albums available at the event. Folias Duo has collaborated for over two decades, blending classical, jazz, world influences, and improvisation, with compositions shaped by life on the road and the natural world. August is a female-led pop duo from Grand Rapids known for lush harmonies and stories of love and self-discovery that have resonated across West Michigan. The Stray is a music and arts cafe offering craft beer, coffee, and wine, and the kitchen serves a full dinner menu until 9pm. Arriving early helps with finding a preferred seat and enjoying a meal before the music begins. This blues dance gathering spans three nights with sets from skilled DJs and a lively mix of dancers traveling from across the country. Interest in being part of The Green Room has been strong. Although daytime practice space is at capacity, the parties have plenty of room for everyone. The nights feature social dancing, great music and snacks to keep the energy high. Admission is $20 for one night or $45 for all three.

At The Pyramid Scheme, LOUDERNOW brings a high energy tribute to the emo and pop punk era with a live, two and a half hour set packed with sing along favorites and a few surprises. This Midwest tribute act leans into full nostalgia, from skinny jeans and studded belts to eyeliner, band tees, and Vans, revisiting the soundtrack of the scene. The set spans hits by artists like Taking Back Sunday, My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Blink-182, Paramore, The Used, AFI, Jimmy Eat World, Dashboard Confessional, Good Charlotte, Sum 41, Hawthorne Heights, Underoath, 30 Seconds to Mars, Mayday Parade, All Time Low, Story of the Year, Sugarcult, The Starting Line, Coheed and Cambria, Anberlin, Rise Against, Motion City Soundtrack, Silverstein, Thrice, Senses Fail, Boys Like Girls, Cartel, The Maine, Saosin, Something Corporate, New Found Glory, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, The Ataris, We The Kings, and Four Year Strong, with many more in the mix. Shantyland, the duo of Ben Traverse and Michael Dause, returns to the stage for the first time in three years. Traverse, a member of the Earthwork Music Collective who uses they and them pronouns, has spent more than a decade caring for folk traditions, traveling the Great Lakes region to share sea shanties, bluegrass, Celtic, and old time songs. The lineup also features Erin Monroe with collaborators Shelby Leigh and Alex Austin, joined by the jazz group the Night Owls. Monroe approaches songwriting as an intentional, reflective practice. Her voice carries warmth and assurance, and her performances balance softness with impact. She treats her craft as an expression of presence, gratitude, and trust, allowing each song to develop naturally and inviting listeners to pause and reconnect.
