    At Wildflower Cottage Shop and Studio, this hands-on workshop centers on creating a driftwood basket inspired by Lake Superior. Participants use rib construction to start with an airy framework, pairing a rattan hoop with a weathered piece of driftwood that becomes the focal element. As the weave builds, the shape reveals itself. Instruction covers forming the hoop, positioning and shaping the ribs, and weaving from each end toward the center. Attendees finish with a completed basket and a technique they can apply to future work. All tools and materials are provided, so beginners and experienced weavers are equally supported. Ages 14 and up. Hand dexterity is required. The sample basket measures about 12 inches across, 8 inches deep, and 8 inches high. Class size is limited to 8 participants. A lunch break is included, snacks are provided, and participants may bring their own meal.

    A relaxed 2 to 4 mile run sets out from Bemidji Brewing, followed by time at the brewery for a beer or soft drink. All experience levels and paces are welcome, and friendly dogs can come along. Expect a casual atmosphere with roughly 3 to 15 participants. The group goes out in most weather, skipping only when conditions are especially cold or nasty. Distance and pace vary based on what people feel like doing. Sometimes runners split into smaller groups, and other times everyone stays together. If you are new to running or not ready to head out with the group, it is still fine to stop by the brewery for the social portion.
