Explore the art of tabletop miniature painting in a welcoming session for ages 12 and up. All basic supplies and a selection of miniatures are available, and you are welcome to bring your own materials if you prefer. Everyone takes home the figure they complete. An informal reading buddies program pairs elementary-aged children with middle or high school students for one-on-one reading. TAB members serve as the older reading partners, and families bring their elementary readers. No registration is required, and participation can be as brief or as long as you like. Younger readers may read aloud to an older buddy, listen as a teen reads to them, or take turns sharing a book together. The focus is on building a love of reading in a relaxed setting, not on tutoring. Participants can choose books from the library’s collection or bring favorite titles from home. Celebrate the arts in Central Park with a free gathering built around Mixed Precipitation’s Pick-up Opera Volume 6, Tales of Hoffmann. No tickets or registration are required. The experience starts with hands-on creativity for all ages, including drawing guided by Kate Langlais and a wool felting activity led by Char Johnson. After the art-making, enjoy a live performance from Mixed Precipitation. Marking 18 years of inventive outdoor work, the company presents a bold, futuristic take on Jacques Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann. The poet Hoffmann searches for love and inspiration in a technology-dominated world, encountering ghosts, robots, magicians, and shape-shifting demons along the way. The music blends classical opera with the sounds of 1990s grunge and R&B, presented in the Pickup Truck Opera format, and welcomes audiences of all ages with plenty of surprises. This event is presented in collaboration with the Community Action Center and the City of Faribault, with support from the Charitable Gambling Advisory Board. Guests are encouraged to bring a canned food item to support the Community Action Center.

This weekly draft generally follows current releases, with occasional mixed-set drafts added for variety. Registration is available, and the entry fee is $15 unless otherwise noted.

Support the Medford Diamond Association baseball and softball teams with a day on a beautiful course. Form a team of four for $420 per team. Participants must be 16 or older. Stop #7 on The Playground Hangout Pack Summer Tour brings the community together for a relaxed hangout that welcomes people and, optionally, their dogs. Attendees can purchase their own food and drinks if they wish. A one-week heads-up helps with reservations, and attendees may also indicate plans by marking Going on the event listing. The group may be seated at separate tables, and Rodney and Kristin will move around so everyone has a chance to connect with the pet parents their dogs already spend time with. Wearing branded shirts, hats, or jackets is encouraged, and referral cards and business cards will be available to share as the community that gathers at The Playground also takes the fun on the road. Branded T-shirts, hoodies, and long-sleeve shirts can be found in the Food Area, with payment handled via Venmo on the honor system for members.

New author and illustrator Barbara Linert of Eagan, Minnesota will take part in the Sons of Norway Norsota Lodge’s Nordic Cultural Skills event at Heritage Lutheran Church. She will share her children’s book, Tales of a Dog Named Kitty, a collection of real-life adventures told from the perspective of a dog with an unexpected name. Attendees can meet the creator, have books signed, and pick up free coloring pages for kids. The program offers a welcoming, family-friendly setting and includes time for Barbara to talk about her Norwegian heritage. It is a fitting outing for young children, families, animal lovers, and anyone who enjoys a good story.

Paradise Community Theatre is holding auditions for Anastasia The Musical, created by Tony winners Terrence McNally, Stephen Flaherty, and Lynn Ahrens, and directed by Shelley Fitzgerald. Performers ages 15 and up are invited to be considered, with potential callbacks by invitation. The story follows a brave young woman with an uncertain past who journeys from the waning days of the Russian Empire to the sparkle of Paris, teaming up with a charming schemer and a kindly former aristocrat while a determined Soviet officer pursues her. Together they chase answers and the possibility of home, love, and belonging. Presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals. Sponsors include Faribo Air Conditioning & Heating, The Bahl Foundation, and the Faribault Daily News.

The Food Truck Train makes a stop in Lakeville at Lakeville Fleet Farm, featuring Eggroll Queen serving its signature dishes. It offers a relaxed, food-filled outing for families and friends.

Open to those interested in becoming members, this gathering offers a chance to learn more and see what it is about. A meeting is planned as part of the event.
