The Kitchen Grill & GamesJuneteenth x The Negro Artist Film Experience
Sponsored by the City of Columbia, this immersive program pairs poetry and film at Ragtag Cinema. The documentary The Negro Artist, directed by Emmy-winning filmmaker Nik Heftman, anchors the event and is framed by an introduction from the director, live spoken word from Columbia native Caleb “The Negro Artist” Rainey alongside other local poets, and a post-screening conversation moderated by Douglas Burns that invites questions for both Heftman and Rainey. Before the film, Skylark Bookshop will host a free storytelling workshop led by Nik and Caleb that delves into the history and craft of telling stories. Admission to the workshop and the screening is free.
