There are three performances each evening. Day 1 features Isaac Kenneth Band from Seymour, Missouri, Covington Creek from Russellville, Arkansas, and Hunter Hathcoat from Ellington, Missouri. Day 2 showcases The Swallowtails from Kansas City, Missouri, stepmom from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and The Hips from Springfield, Missouri. Women bowlers take center stage at Carl Richards Fourth St Bowl for a marathon singles tournament restricted to female competitors. Entrants must be at least 16 years old, and bowlers under 18 need a completed consent form. Check in, a players meeting, and practice take place before competition begins. The format spans two days. Saturday features six games of qualifying. On Sunday all players return for four games, the lanes are re-oiled, then four more qualifying games. Pinfall carries through every round. After 14 qualifying games, the field is cut at a 1 in 6 ratio for three additional games with no re-oil. The top five then advance to a stepladder, bowling two-game total pinfall matches to decide the champion. The winner receives a trophy and a guaranteed $3,000 prize fund. The event uses a modified house shot. Handicap is 70 percent of 210 with a 28 pin cap per game. Payout is 1 in 6. The highest league average from the past two years will be used and verified on bowl.com, and tournament directors may re-rate players at any time. The 10 pin rule is in effect, meaning if a current league average is 10 pins higher than last year after 21 or more games, that information must be disclosed. At the Shoal Creek Water Festival in Wildcat Park in Joplin, Missouri, teams put their ingenuity to the test by designing, naming, building, and paddling handmade boats constructed from cardboard. Crews race down Shoal Creek for bragging rights and one-of-a-kind trophies, with cheers from families and teammates adding to the atmosphere. The experience invites collaboration and creativity, builds problem-solving skills, and even turns sharing duct tape into part of the fun, all while supporting Wildcat Glades Park. Boats must be made entirely of cardboard held together with duct or masking tape, with one-part polyurethane, latex paint, or varnish allowed for finishing. Any surface that touches the water must be cardboard, including the hull and structural features, and the cardboard can be layered as thick as needed but not attached to wood, plastic, or fiberglass. Paddles and decorations are the only exceptions. Wood, plastic, Styrofoam, fiberglass, plastic wrapping or sheathing, coated cardboard such as Sona-Tubes, silicon, wax, tar, caulking compounds, two-part adhesives, metal, and fasteners like staples, screws, or clamps are not allowed. Boats may not tow anything, and judges have final say on how the rules are interpreted. All boats are human powered, so crews bring their own oars or paddles. Every participant wears a personal flotation device and provides their own. All crew members sign a waiver before racing. Teams bring completed boats to the wharf, take part in a brief awards moment after the race, and remove or clean up their boats afterward. Safety comes first, fun follows. Entry is $25 per boat. Divisions include Adult 19 and up with Solo, Tandem, and Team options, Teen 13 to 18 with Solo, Tandem, and Team, and Family or group Tandem and Team entries that must include at least one adult and may include children under 18.

A kids shoebox boat race at Wildcat Glades celebrates creativity and a splash of friendly competition. Young builders craft a floating vessel from a cardboard shoebox, set it on the water, and race within two groups called Minnows and River Runners. There is also a People’s Choice display where community members vote with change and bills, every penny equals one vote, and the top pick earns a cash prize. To participate, a $5 non-refundable entry fee is required. After registration, an invoice is sent by email, or payment can be made in the Nature Store at Shoal Creek Conservation Center. Boat construction follows clear guidelines. The main body must be a cardboard shoebox no wider than 9 inches. Allowed adhesives and finishes are limited to duct tape, water-based one-part paint, and Elmer’s white or wood glue. Not permitted are wood, metal, plastic boat bodies, waterproofed or treated cardboard, harmful substances, two-part paints, epoxy, resin, varnish, silicone, caulk, wax, petroleum jelly, polyurethane, staples, nails, clamps, foam core, pool noodles, or other floaters. Boats that do not meet these standards may still race, but they are not eligible for cash awards. Event officials have the final word on rule questions, and any tie is settled with an extra run down the course. Speed awards are $25 for first, $15 for second, and $10 for third. The first 50 registrants receive a free bag.

After meeting outside Joplin Avenue Coffee Co., volunteers spread out to designated areas to pick up litter and tidy shared spaces across the district. Basic cleanup supplies are provided, and bringing extra brooms, rakes, or gloves is appreciated. Those who cannot attend are encouraged to rally friends, family, or coworkers to clean around workplaces, homes, or favorite hangouts and share before and after photos with Downtown Joplin Alliance. If any hazardous items are found, the city should be contacted for safe removal. The effort is supported by JoplinRecycles. The organizer notes that only communications posted by Downtown Joplin Alliance are official and that they will not request personal or financial information through Facebook.

CASA DE SANIDAD hosts a free community back to school bash open to the public. The event welcomes all K-12 students, including homeschool students, as well as college and university students.
