Historic Gymnasium Ribbon Cutting

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will mark the re-opening of the Town of Davidson Historic Gymnasium. This locally designated landmark, also known as the Davidson School Gymnasium and situated behind the Davidson Town Hall and Community Center, was designed by architect Willard G. Rogers and completed in 1937 as part of a countywide school building effort largely supported by the Federal Emergency Administration of Public Works. That same period also produced the Ada Jenkins School and a new 12-room schoolhouse in Cornelius. Spanning 5,230 square feet, the building showcases classical details including arched windows, solid masonry construction, a main floor, and original wooden bleachers. Following its renovation, the facility will serve as the Town of Davidson’s first indoor recreation center, demonstrating adaptive reuse and historic preservation. The design-build team for the project is Balfour-Beatty and Creech & Associates, with support from Mecklenburg County through the American Rescue Plan Act and from the Town of Davidson’s 2021 and 2023 General Obligation Bonds.

Historical Romance/Women's Fiction Author Popup: Lisa Williams Kline

Fred & Junes Books hosts a pop-up appearance with historical romance and women’s fiction author Lisa Williams Kline. She will be available to sign books and talk about her novels Between the Sky and the Sea and Ladies’ Day. Between the Sky and the Sea blends legend and history as Lavinia Onslow survives the Pulaski disaster and forges a path between independence and a romance sparked by crisis, moving through Savannah, New Orleans, and the coast of North Carolina. Ladies’ Day follows Bet Sawyer, who, after years without her missing daughter, notices a newspaper photo of a rising teen golfer named Sky Sawyer whose resemblance raises the possibility of a long-lost granddaughter. Their search for what each has lost unfolds as a story of family ties and hard-won hope, with praise from Kim Wright, author of Last Ride to Graceland, for its tender look at love that endures. Kline is also the author of the essay collection The Ruby Mirror and the short story collection Take Me, and she lives in Davidson with her veterinarian husband, a clever cat who opens doors, and a chihuahua that once played Bruiser Woods in Legally Blonde: The Musical.

A mainstay of Georgia music, she has connections to the Indigo Girls, has performed as part of the Kristian Bush Band, appeared with the Atlanta Symphony alongside Gregg Allman and Chuck Leavell, and has toured with both ZZ Top and Ellen DeGeneres. Her live shows are known for high energy, authenticity, and a soulful spark that fills the room. Her latest album, Southern Comfort, leans into guitar-forward Southern rock, includes co-writing with Dean Dillon, and features guests Buddy Miller, Rick Richards, Will Kimbrough, Charlie Starr, Paul Jackson, and Randall Bramblett. The release earned strong praise, including 4 out of 5 stars from American Songwriter and a 2025 Rock Album of the Year honor from IAP, with additional recognition from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and other outlets. This duo setting highlights engaging stories, acclaimed songs, and plenty of six-string fireworks.

Make friends & BlaBla Language Exchange Denver - Every other Tuesday - Recurrent event

This recurring language exchange in Denver brings people together to meet new friends, practice languages, and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. The format is open and social, with no assigned tables, just conversations that flow naturally. English and the local language are the primary options, and anyone wanting to try another language can ask an organizer or connect with someone who speaks it. A matchmaking option is available to help pair up with a practice partner. To keep things smooth for everyone, please register on the website before attending. Order at least one drink on arrival as part of the venue’s policy, do not bring outside food or beverages, be considerate to the staff, and help keep the space tidy. Treat others with respect, and note that breaking the rules can result in a ban without prior notice. Photos and videos are often taken to capture the event. If you prefer not to be included, let the photographer know. Keep personal belongings secure because the event does not take responsibility for lost items. There are opportunities to get involved as an event organizer or as a photographer or videographer. Event links are sometimes reused, so dates and participant numbers shown on Facebook may not reflect current details. The BlaBla community hosts gatherings in more than 150 cities worldwide.
