Smart Start offers free Kaleidoscope Play & Learn groups for families with children ages 0 to 5 at New Hanover County Public Library. These weekly gatherings welcome all families and do not require pre-registration.

Take part in a public museum tour that is free with regular admission. A knowledgeable guide leads the tour through various exhibits and shares insights that deepen understanding of the artworks on display. Connect with other caregivers at a Circle of Parents gathering facilitated by Smart Start in the Wilmington community. It welcomes parents of children ages 0 to 8, as well as parents of children with special needs ages 0 to 12. The whole family shares a meal together, then children head to their group while parents take part in guided conversations. All parents and caregivers are welcome, and older siblings are welcome too. There is no cost to participate.

A fall and winter kids consignment sale brings thousands of items together in one place for families, educators, and bargain seekers. Shop for every stage from maternity through the teen years, including clothing for girls and boys from newborn through 16 plus, shoes up to size 10 in both men and women, maternity wear and accessories, baby gear, toys, puzzles, games, electronic toys, home decor, holiday items, costumes, books, feeding supplies, bath and potty essentials, beach and pool gear, arts and crafts, DVDs, bags and purses, backpacks, lunch bags, and sporting goods. Teachers and daycare staff can find manipulatives, toys, and books, and grandparents can browse for their grandkids. Those with outgrown or unused kid items can consign across all brands and earn 70 percent, with options to boost the percentage by volunteering for one or two shifts. A step by step consigning guide is available. The sale takes place at Winter Park Baptist Church Gym in Wilmington.

At Ogden Park, the fifth annual New Hanover County first responders kickball tournament unites teams from law enforcement, fire, EMS, 911, and EM for a day of camaraderie and friendly competition. The beneficiary is the Cape Fear EMS Foundation, a 501c3 that supports local first responders in New Hanover County.

Enjoy a day by the Cape Fear River at a waterfront market in Riverlights featuring 30 local makers. Browse goods, listen to live music, and explore a park filled with local vendors. Riverlights offers many established bars and restaurants, and coffee and food trucks will be on site. It is a welcoming outing for the whole family, including four legged friends.

Compete in a Pokémon League event where players are matched within age divisions and can put their decks to the test against the field. The event uses the Standard format with Swiss rounds, best of one. Entry is $8 and may be purchased in store. Every participant receives one POP Pack. Store credit is awarded for each match win, set at $5 per win when there are three rounds and $4 per win when there are four rounds. Any undefeated player earns one pack from the most recent Standard set. Only sets that have had a prerelease are considered Standard for this event.
