Those new to beekeeping are encouraged to complete the introductory course first. The session covers evaluation, diagnosis, and control, including the short and long term effects of these parasites. Participants will collect bees from on-site hives, perform bee and mite counts, learn to set acceptable and unacceptable thresholds, and take part in several treatment methods. The instruction replaces uncertainty with evidence-based confidence by comparing alcohol and powdered sugar counting methods through demonstration and analysis, then reinforcing learning with multiple treatment approaches such as oxalic acid, formic acid, potassium salts, thyme, and other acaricides. Plan for a full outdoor experience and bring a folding chair. At minimum, a bee veil is required and a jacket or full suit is preferred. Personal protective equipment can be purchased on site if needed. Alcohol and smoking products are not permitted at the farm. Participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult and have an enrollment sponsor. Cancellations are subject to a 15 dollar fee on refunds, and last minute withdrawals can limit opportunities for others. This five-day indoor camp at Extreme Outfitters in Jacksonville, NC invites ages 8 to 17 to build archery skills with instructors who actively shoot. The week begins with safety, equipment basics, proper form, and first arrows on the range. Campers then move into target archery, learning how to score both traditional and 3-spot faces while increasing distance in a steady progression. A day dedicated to 3D archery covers vital zones on animal targets and scoring, followed by a mini 3D course. Gear and skill stations highlight arrow anatomy and bow fundamentals, with rotating drills and individualized coaching. The finale brings lighthearted balloon shooting on 3D and paper targets at a range of distances, wrapped up with an ice cream party and no competition pressure. No prior experience is needed. All equipment is provided, and participants may bring their own bow. Enrollment is limited to 10 campers per session. The fee is $175 per camper. This is the final session of the summer and a last chance to participate before the school year begins.
