Exhibition: "AT WHAT POINT DOES A CIRCLE BREAK TO FORM A SPIRAL"

Wilson Arts Center, 204 Nash St E, Wilson · verified Aug 7
    Free

North Carolina artist Tom Braswell presents a solo exhibition titled AT WHAT POINT DOES A CIRCLE BREAK TO FORM A SPIRAL, focusing on the moment when a repeating cycle turns into growth and continuity gives way to expansion. Featuring photographs, sculpture and assemblage, conceptual works, prints, and installations, the exhibition draws on decades of inquiry across science, philosophy, ecology, and visual culture. Interests including quantum physics, the fourth dimension, Zen thought, pataphysics, art theory, and the evolving relationship between nature and the human-shaped environment inform works that challenge habitual ways of seeing and bring attention to the unseen structures that shape experience. This survey highlights connections between the physical and the metaphysical, the visible and the invisible, and the cyclical and the transformative. The spiral emerges as a resonant metaphor for artistic practice, returning while moving forward, and encouraging reflection on one’s place within larger patterns of change and continuity. Free and open to the public. Sponsored by David and Susan Boyette, Melanie Mauzé, Rebecca Tighe, and Marcia and Buster Williamson.
