A key feature is Jordyn’s Light 3rd Annual Family Fun Day and Raffle Extravaganza. Founded by Angela Jessie, host of The Self-Care Expo, Jordyn’s Light honors her daughter, Jordyn, and helps raise awareness of pregnancy and infant loss while offering remembrance, community, and compassionate programs for families. Whether the goal is to shop, learn, connect, support a meaningful cause, or simply enjoy time with loved ones, there is something for everyone. There is no cost to attend. After Dark Presents brings Hawthorne Heights to Town Ballroom to celebrate the 20th anniversary of If Only You Were Lonely, joined by special guests letlive. and Creeper. Yalla Habibi Presents brings Soumaya MaRose and Jill Parker to Buffalo for a weekend devoted to Moroccan dance, raqs sharqi, and innovative fusion, presented by Samana and Kenzie. The program centers on in-depth training, cultural context, and performance, with all workshops taking place at Elmwood Commons in Tonawanda and a gala show at Elmwood Commons Theater. A small-group performance intensive with Jill Parker welcomes fifteen dancers to learn and present her Ismaaouni choreography as a group in the gala. Preparation includes online sessions ahead of the weekend and an in-person rehearsal, and participation requires a full weekend pass. Ismaaouni, a classic Arab song whose lively instrumental rendition by Musicians of the Nile features mizmar, rebab, and propulsive tabla, sets the tone with vintage flavor and driving rhythm. Workshop offerings span technique and tradition. Soumaya’s introduction to Moroccan dance and culture surveys four regional forms, linking movement to history, environment, and socioeconomic influences to illuminate the rich mosaic of Moroccan music and dance. Jill’s training on being rooted in tradition while growing one’s craft emphasizes precision, efficient mechanics, muscular awareness, articulate isolations, embodied presence, refined musicality, and dynamic control through targeted drills and thoughtful exploration. Soumaya’s darbuka and rhythm session digs into how regional identities express themselves through rhythm, how to interpret the drum within its cultural context and settings, and how to refine intricate pelvic work while unpacking westernized interpretations of the style. The weekend also includes a gala performance featuring Soumaya and Jill, plus a social brunch with light fare and espresso drinks prepared by barista Jacob ahead of the final movement session. Soumaya’s henna ceremony workshop focuses on the urban North Moroccan ritual and its Amazigh roots, highlighting symbolism and the music and dances that accompany this transition rite. Jill’s closing session, centered on slinky fusion and internal power, explores heart lift, clear framing, and the art of doing less to amplify clarity and presence. Through slow, fluid drills, spinal articulation, grounded walking patterns, and work with contrast, dancers cultivate seamless transitions and a continuous, serpentine quality, shifting texture and timing to melt, strike, suspend, and flow with intention. Pricing options include a full pass that covers all workshops and brunch for $365 early bird or $399 regular, with the performance intensive offered as a $150 add-on that requires purchase of the full pass. A pass covering the Saturday and Sunday workshops includes those sessions, brunch, and the evening gala for $315 early bird or $335 regular. Gala tickets are $20. BIPOC and MENAHT dancers can use the code BIPOCMENAHT for workshop pricing. No refunds are issued unless the hosts cancel the event, and spots may be transferred by coordinating with Kenzie.

A classic WNY-style meat raffle raises funds for the children of Bornhava. Guests purchase tickets, cheer with their tables, and watch the wheel determine who takes home everything from steaks and chops to bacon and pizza logs. Additional chances to win include door prizes, a basket raffle, and a 50/50. Admission includes beer, wine, and pop, and attendees must be 21 or older. Suggested items to bring include cash, snacks, a cooler for any winnings, and a favorite good-luck charm. Outside alcohol is not allowed. Those unable to attend can choose a non-attendee ticket to be entered into all raffle drawings while still supporting the cause.
