Free events in Cortland, NY

Put your ability to read challenging cursive to work by helping transcribe the 1920 census for the HistoryForge database. The project combines historic maps and photographs with census records of Cortland County residents to create a way to visualize the community’s history in the early 1900s. New participants are welcome and do not need prior training, as instruction will be provided during the session. Please bring a laptop or tablet.

Set at the pavilion in Steamboat Landing, this weekly outdoor market lets you browse the stalls and reconnect with friends in an open air setting. It highlights agriculture, art, and food that are grown, made, or cooked within 30 miles of the pavilion, which was built by its members.

This long-standing road race features a speedy, flat loop through the Fall Creek neighborhood that starts and finishes at Ithaca High School. Participants can complete one loop for 5K or run it twice for 10K. The 10K is designated as the RRCA Eastern Regional Championship Race. Families can look forward to a free 1-mile Fun Run for kids. Both distances begin and end at the high school, with the finish located in the parking lot bus lane just around the corner from the start. Free parking is available in the school lots.

This informal meet and greet offers time to ask questions, talk one on one with individual doulas, and explore the types of care available during pregnancy, labor and birth, the postpartum period, and other life transitions. There is no cost to attend, and it is open to anyone interested in doula support.
