Start from Schoen Place near the pavilion for a group ride along the Erie Canal path. The route heads west with a brief stop at Lock 32 to meet additional riders, continues toward the UR Campus, then goes downtown on the west side of the Genesee River for a coffee break at Javas on Gibbs Street. The return follows the east side of the river through the UR Campus back to the canal path and ends where it began. The route and downtown coffee stop may vary slightly from week to week.

Drop off 5-cent deposit cans and bottles at Victor Senior High School to support the Victor Band Boosters. A collection trailer will be on site to accept returnables. Organizers of the 4th Annual Lima Pumpkin Festival and Agricultural Day are seeking additional volunteers to support activities at Mark Tubbs Park in Lima, New York. A variety of roles are available, most scheduled in two hour shifts, with opportunities spread across the days leading up to the festival and shortly afterward. At the Mendon Community Center, the Honeoye Falls–Town of Mendon Historical Society hosts a presentation by historian and educator Jane Oakes titled "Opera Houses and Halls of the Genesee Country." Oakes explores how communities across New York State built opera houses and public halls from the mid 1800s through the Depression, what actually took place inside them beyond grand opera, and how these venues shaped everyday social life. The talk highlights common architectural styles seen across a ten county area, notes buildings lost to fires or later development, and points out examples that still linger in local communities. She also maintains the largest known database of opera houses and halls in the state. Oakes brings more than five decades in historic education, beginning as a teen volunteer at the Valentown Museum in Victor under historian J. Sheldon Fisher. Her work includes teaching open hearth cookery, nineteenth century schooling, and architectural history at Genesee Country Village & Museum; serving as a Museum Studies and Local History teacher-consultant for regional BOCES Gifted and Talented programs; and leading eighteenth and nineteenth century foodways classes and demonstrations at museums and historic sites in four states. She spent five years coordinating school tours and education at the William Mills Mansion Museum in Mt. Morris. Her research helped secure National Register recognition for the Avon Opera Block and Avon’s Five Arch Bridge, and she has advised Western New York museums as well as groups and individuals restoring historic opera houses. Her reenactment experience spans the French and Indian War, the Revolutionary War, and the American Fur Trade era. She holds a BA in Theater with a minor in Anthropology, and an MA in History, and her illustrated programs often lead to return invitations. This meeting is open to the public, and the venue is accessible.

The Giant Pumpkin & Sunflower Competitions, part of the 4th Annual Lima Pumpkin Festival & AG Day, offer more than $2,000 in prize money and are open to everyone with no entry fee. Pumpkin entries are judged in three divisions. The heaviest overall pumpkin earns $500 for first place, $250 for second, and $150 for third. At a meeting of the Honeoye Falls Town of Mendon Historical Society, Drew Saur presents “21 Months: The Story of Our Museum’s Reinvention,” sharing how a late 2023 review of policies led to a complete rethinking of the museum. What began as a long overdue, top-to-bottom inventory of roughly 15,000 collection items became a deeper examination of what truly belongs in the museum, shifting attention from age alone to clear relevance for the community. Volunteers embraced a simple guiding question about visitor expectations as they evaluated each object, a perspective encouraged by Trustee Gary Albright. Their work culminated in a comprehensive refresh of the exhibits, the first time in the museum’s 56 year history that everything was redone and the most significant transformation in three decades. Saur’s perspective is informed by a career at the intersection of technology and leadership. He serves as Chief Information Officer for The Palmer Family of Companies, teaches in the Software Engineering Department at RIT, and founded The Progressive CIO, a blog focused on technology leadership. He has built high performing engineering and IT teams with an emphasis on empathy and trust. He is president of the Historical Society and previously led the Mendon Foundation, a land trust that helped develop and maintain the Lehigh Valley Trail in collaboration with the Monroe County Parks Department. Last year, nearly 2,500 luminarias illuminated the park, creating a quiet atmosphere of remembrance and hope. Individual luminarias are available for purchase at $12, with discounted bundles of 12 or 24, and Light Hill volunteers will create, personalize, place, and light each dedication. Advance orders are due by a specified deadline, and onsite purchases are available if that window is missed. The event aligns with National Hospice and Palliative Care Month, and community support through spreading the word or purchasing luminarias helps light the way for a mission of caring for others at a profound time in life. He first made his mark in the early 1980s with They Came From Houses on New York’s underground circuit at CBGBs, Folk City, and the Mudd Club, sharing stages with Marshall Crenshaw, Mink DeVille, the Stray Cats, John Hammond Jr., George Thorogood, and David Johansen. After stepping back from a record deal to focus on family, he directed films, wrote jingles, and honed his craft with insight from artists including Willie Dixon, Robert Lockwood Jr., Jonnie Johnson, Sammy Cahn, Bruce Springsteen, Van Walls, Richie Havens, and Jackson Browne. He also deepened his connection to African American culture and the music of the Sea Islands, performing at The Gullah Festival in Beaufort, South Carolina, before returning full time to the stage in the 1990s. An early independent release drew the attention of Mick Taylor of The Rolling Stones, who contributed to The Turning Point and toured with him.
