The annual LIGHT[the]HILL luminaria celebration transforms Kershaw Park in Canandaigua with candles glowing inside personalized bags, each one dedicated in memory or in honor of a loved one. Last year, nearly 2,500 luminarias illuminated the park, creating a quiet atmosphere of remembrance and hope. Individual luminarias are available for purchase at $12, with discounted bundles of 12 or 24, and Light Hill volunteers will create, personalize, place, and light each dedication. The Art Center concludes its exhibition calendar with the annual holiday show, Celebrate the Season. Roots rock collective Donna The Buffalo takes the stage for a seated general admission concert. Known for a deep connection with fans, the group has performed at major gatherings including Bonnaroo, Newport Folk Festival, Telluride, Austin City Limits Festival, MerleFest, and the Philadelphia Folk Festival. They have opened for The Dead and toured with Peter Rowan, Del McCoury, Los Lobos, Little Feat, Jim Lauderdale, Rusted Root, and Railroad Earth, and they have partnered with Ben & Jerry's co-founder Ben Cohen to raise awareness about corporate spending in politics. The band also launched the Finger Lakes GrassRoots Festival in Trumansburg, a community celebration that began as an AIDS benefit and continues to support arts and education. It draws more than 15,000 attendees and has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars. This festival is part of a wider GrassRoots family that includes events at Shakori Hills in North Carolina and Virginia Key in Florida, along with GrassRoots Culture Camp in Trumansburg featuring workshops in music, art, dance, and movement plus shared meals and dances.
