Anne Cognato brings perspectives as a poet, photographer, gardener, and IT professional, with publications in Bards Annual, MudFish 25, Suffolk County Poetry Review, and Green Prints, and recognition as a finalist in the 2025 Babylon Village Arts Council poetry contest. Lorraine Conlin, Nassau County Poet Laureate Emeritus from 2015 to 2017, serves as V.P. of the NCPLS, PPA events coordinator, and director of program development for the LIWG, with work published nationally and internationally and two wins in the Allan Ginsburg Poetry Contest. Gloria g. Murray’s poetry and prose have appeared in journals such as Flapperhouse, Paterson Review, Poet Lore, Moment, Third Wednesday, and Adelaide, with honors that include first place in the 2014 Anna Davidson Rosenberg award, Poetica Magazine, and third place in the 2017 Writer’s Digest poetry contest, along with poetry chapbooks and the novella CALAMITY JANE. Mary Winters is the author of Just Between Us, is active in the Farmingdale Poetry and Creative Writing Group, the Smithtown Library Writers Group, and the Long Island Writer’s Guild, has work published nationally and internationally, and serves on the advisory board for the Nassau County Poet Laureate Society.

Take a relaxed jog between neighborhood bars in Jersey City on a route that has been held every year since 2010. The group sets off from Abby’s Pub and travels through historic, distinctive, and off-the-beaten-path areas, spending unhurried time at each stop before moving on. Each leg is roughly a half mile to a mile and a half at an easy 11 to 11 and a half minute pace, with about 30 to 40 minutes to unwind at every bar. The outing wraps up at Moore’s Place with a well known open jazz jam. Adelphi Orchestra opens its 73rd season with American Voices at 250 at Broadway Presbyterian Church. Boyce, the Hill Country Boogie King whose half century in music is being saluted. Expect a night steeped in hypnotic grooves, raw rhythms, and deep-rooted tradition. Sharde Thomas and the Rising Stars Fife & Drum Band keep alive one of the oldest strands of American blues, a lineage connected to her grandfather Otha Turner, who was R.L. Boyce’s uncle. Boyce began in 1970 at age 15 as a drummer in that very fife-and-drum family band, and Thomas also appears on the soundtrack to the film Sinners. New Moon Acoustic Blues, a New York City duo, explores early 1900s American sounds, with singer guitarist Karl Schwarz versed in Mississippi Delta and Piedmont styles, alongside traditional gospel and spirituals, and David A. Barnes on harmonica, a member of Memphis Blood. Brother Tito Deler, also known as Harlem Slim, offers blues inspired by Son House and Fred McDowell, infused with his Dominican roots. Howlin’ Hurd and The House Rockers are led by Brian Hurd of Daddy Long Legs, recently back from tours in Australia and Japan, bringing fervent, street-honed blues. Robert Kimbrough Sr. BluesConnection (CPSB) represents the youngest son of Junior Kimbrough, delivering trance-rich Cotton Patch Soul Blues. Lightnin’ Malcolm appears as a North Mississippi electric one-man band who played, recorded, and toured with Boyce for three decades as second guitarist and drummer, and has also worked with Cedric Burnside, Mississippi All Stars, and Paul Wine Jones. Admission is $20 and attendees must be 21 or older. The night promises plenty of boogie in true juke joint spirit.
