He started touring at 17 and built his reputation through school dances, church talent shows, and repeat appearances at the Regal Theatre, followed by notable club gigs at spots like Burning Spear, Teresa’s, Wise Fools, Ma B’s, and Buddy Guy’s Checkerboard Lounge. A sit-in with the Fabulous Thunderbirds in the early 1970s led to collaborations with harmonica player Shakin Smith and a move back to Buffalo. After years performing across the U.S. and Canada, he formed The Jony James Band in the early 1990s, toured the East and Southeast, released two albums with Blue Wave Records, produced five independent recordings, and earned induction into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame.

DiTondo is a fourth-generation family restaurant founded by Sebastiano Di Tondo, who immigrated from Abruzzo, Italy, and established his own Italian eatery in the 1930s. In 2019, his great-granddaughter, Rita Di Tondo, and her husband, Fabio Consonni, took the helm. The restaurant reopened in 2021 after a kitchen upgrade and a restoration that honored the building’s historic character.
