At Rhinebeck High School, the Upstate Smackdown caps the 2026 PKN Series as an official PKN rated event. Competitors have one last opportunity to collect points, boost their standings, and face strong opponents from across the circuit. The tournament presents a complete slate of traditional divisions, including forms, weapons, and point fighting, all conducted under PKN rules. A featured attraction is the Black Belt Open Weight Sparring Division, with bouts contested in two rounds of two minutes each, designed for high-caliber action. Participants, coaches, and schools are encouraged to review the full division list and the PKN rulebook before registering.

Flex your Olana know-how at a lively spring trivia night celebrating Frederic Church’s 200th birthday year. The Olana Partnership staff hosts a friendly competition where you can play with a team or try your luck solo. Top finishers and runners up receive an Olana prize pack. Designed for young audiences and families, Sugar Skull is a bilingual and bicultural musical that celebrates Día de Muertos through regional music and dance from Mexico. The story follows twelve-year-old Vita Flores, who questions why her family is preparing a celebration for loved ones who have passed. When a spirited sugar skull springs to life, she embarks on a music-filled journey to discover the holiday’s deeper meaning. This performance welcomes attendees of all ages. After a reservation form is completed, an invoice or confirmation is sent by email to confirm the order, and payment guidelines and due dates must be followed.

A hands-on session at Olana centers on repurposing and printmaking, turning well-loved or leftover materials into fresh creations inspired by the fall season. Experiment with making prints and patches, and give clothing a new look through simple redesigns. All art supplies are provided, and light refreshments will be available. Open to ages 14 and older, with room to continue a work in progress or start something new. This program is free with no registration required and takes place at the Wagon House Education Center.

Colony Woodstock NY presents an evening with Aaron Lee Tasjan alongside Madeleine Kelson. Tasjan, a Grammy-nominated Americana rock singer, songwriter, and guitarist, takes the stage after a creative reset inspired by guidance from his mentor Todd Snider. That exchange sparked a burst of writing that led to his album Get Over It, Underdog, co-produced with longtime engineer Mark Miller and centered on resilience, friendship, and rooting for the long shot. Completed shortly before Snider’s passing, the record channels that mentorship into sharp, concise songs. Highlights include Science Friction, which considers technology’s impact on working people, Lost & Alone with its hook-forward release, Twilight Zone Blues pulsing with gritty glam tension, Ballad of an East Canton Lowlife looking back at his Ohio adolescence and the connective force of music, and The Real, a rallying cut that asks what authenticity means and how communities heal. Sharing the bill, Nashville-based Americana artist Madeleine Kelson draws on folk and country traditions while expanding their boundaries as a queer artist. She came up in Chicago with The Kelson Twins, performing at House of Blues and Thalia Hall and earning a top Daytrotter Session with Paste Magazine, then moved to Nashville for a solo career shaped by influences like Patty Griffin, Jason Isbell, and Brandi Carlile. NPR named her one of 10 Nashville artists on the rise, she won the IBMA Songwriter Showcase in 2017, and her 2018 EP Siren was noted for its spare, melodic vocals and elegant violin lines, drawing comparisons to Amos Lee and Gillian Welch. Her self-produced 2022 album While I Was Away was released on Olivia Records, and she has since been recognized by outlets including No Depression and NPR, became a Kerrville New Folk finalist, saw The Way I Do reach over a million views on TikTok, and appeared on Spotify editorial playlists such as Queer as Folk, Emerging Americana, and Fresh Finds Folk. Her EP Where the Spirit Meets the Muscle followed in 2024.

At Ulster Performing Arts Center, The Wailin’ Jennys bring the seamless harmonies of Nicky Mehta, Ruth Moody, and Heather Masse, three unique voices that blend with striking clarity within folk and roots traditions. What began as three solo artists sharing a small guitar shop stage in Winnipeg grew into an internationally admired trio. Founders Moody and Mehta, joined by New York based Masse, continue to deliver acclaimed recordings and compelling concerts. NPR noted during a Newport Folk Festival set that their work goes beyond polished harmony, emphasizing confident leadership and a respectful approach to traditional roots music. Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY presents an evening of contemporary bluegrass and roots music with AJ Lee & Blue Summit joined by The Cody Sisters. AJ Lee & Blue Summit formed after its members first connected as teenagers at bluegrass festivals around Santa Cruz, California, carrying that early jam-circle spark into a seasoned, on-the-road career. The group features AJ Lee on mandolin, Jan Purat on fiddle, Sullivan Tuttle on guitar, and Sean Newman on bass. In 2024 they released their third studio album, City Of Glass, on Signature Sounds, followed in 2025 by the covers collection Cover to Cover V.1. That project highlights their wide-ranging influences with guest appearances from Lindsay Lou, Trey Hensley, Ahn Phung, and Kyle Tuttle. Highlights include a rendition of Gillian Welch’s Tear My Stillhouse Down with Lindsay Lou, a California-rooted take on Glendale Train featuring Molly Tuttle and Kyle Tuttle, Sully Tuttle leading the early jazz favorite Who Walks In (When I Walk Out) with Trey Hensley and Ahn Phung, AJ fronting the country classic Takes One to Know One, and former member Scott Gates closing the EP with I’m a Believer, the Monkees hit widely recognized from Shrek. The Cody Sisters—Maddie Cody, Megan Cody, and Will Pavilonis—bring close harmonies, finely crafted songwriting, and a sound shaped by Colorado’s folk and bluegrass community. With Maddie on banjo, Megan on mandolin, and both sharing guitar duties, the duo’s longstanding musical partnership deepened in 2020 when Pavilonis joined on upright bass and vocal harmonies, also contributing to the writing and arrangements. Their self-titled 2023 EP and tours across the United States and Europe marked a period of growth that continues with All the Quiet People, recorded at Vermillion Studios with producer Mike Robinson and engineer Eric Wiggs. The album blends personal narratives and literary inspiration, from a tour memory retold in Collectors on the Run to the influence of author Ocean Vuong on Mother Tongue, all underscoring the trio’s message that every story matters.

Rosendale’s monthly ukulele jam brings players of all ages and experience levels together at the Rosendale Recreation Center. A rotating lineup of leaders guides the session, adding a fresh twist each week, and sheet music is projected on a large-screen TV for easy play-along. A $5 contribution is requested, with a portion supporting the Ukulele Donation Fund that is currently earmarked for a Veterans Ukulele Class in Kingston, and no one is turned away. The Chambers School Craft Fair returns with a festive holiday market featuring more than fifty local crafters, makers, and vendors. Enjoy complimentary photos with Santa, kids craft activities, and face painting, and note that admission is free. Last year the fair welcomed more than 500 attendees. Vendor applications are currently open, and the event supports the local elementary school while offering something for all ages.

Award-winning author Lisajoy Sachs will lead a fireside reading, book signing, and Q&A at Scribner’s Catskill Lodge as part of A Very Jewish Weekend, a celebration of Jewish storytelling, identity, and community in the Catskills.
