A sensory sensitive staging of The Addams Family at the CM Performing Arts Center has been carefully designed in collaboration with Accessibility and Inclusion Consultant Dr. Dennis McElheron of DJM Consulting Services Inc. It offers a welcoming experience for individuals with sensory sensitivities, along with their families, friends, and caregivers. Sound levels are lowered for comfortable listening. Lighting transitions are softened and extended, and guests who are sensitive to light may choose to bring sunglasses. Content and sensory advisories are shared before moments that could feel intense, and guests may step out at any time to a breakout room where the performance continues on a TV, then return when ready. A 360-degree view of the space is available to help ease transitions to new environments. Movement and vocalizations are understood and accepted, and guests are welcome to bring sensory tools or comfort items. Staff and volunteers strive to greet everyone with kindness, patience, and respect. These supports, including the breakout room and advance viewing resources, are available at all performances at the theater. The Addams Family is a comedy that celebrates the quirks found in every household. Wednesday Addams has fallen in love with a kind and smart young man from a respectable family her parents have not met, and she asks her father, Gomez, to keep the news from Morticia. The secret sets the stage for a dinner that brings both families together and turns everything upside down. Rated PG-13.
