Sensory Sensitive Performance of Rocky the Musical

Noel S. Ruiz Theatre at CM Performing Arts Center, 931 Montauk Hwy, Oakdale · verified Sep 4
    See details

A sensory sensitive performance of Rocky the Musical at the CM Performing Arts Center has been thoughtfully developed with Accessibility Coordinator Christine Kerimian-Fitzgerald to welcome individuals with sensory sensitivities, along with their families, friends, and caregivers. The goal is a supportive theater experience where everyone can feel comfortable and enjoy the show in the way that suits them best. Sound levels will be lowered throughout, and lighting transitions will be softened and extended to reduce abrupt changes. Before moments that could feel intense, announcements will offer a heads-up so guests can prepare or step out if they wish. Anyone may leave the auditorium at any time to use a breakout room that continues the performance on a TV screen, then return when ready. A 360-degree view of the venue is available to help guests get familiar with the space beforehand. Movement and vocalizations are welcome, and attendees are encouraged to bring sensory tools or comfort items. Staff and volunteers are committed to greeting every guest with kindness, patience, and respect at all performances. Rocky the Musical brings the Best Picture story to the stage with music and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and a book by Thomas Meehan, adapted from Sylvester Stallone’s Oscar-nominated screenplay. The story follows small-time Philadelphia boxer Rocky Balboa as he gets the chance to face world heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, while a growing relationship with Adrian helps them both discover their inner strength. With grit and heart, it celebrates perseverance, courage, and love. Rated PG-13. The performance runs approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes, including a 15 minute intermission.
