Black Roads and Back Stories

A songwriter showcase features Rees Shad and Drew Young, with local artist Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers appearing in a supporting role. Rees Shad brings more than four decades of work, including 32 releases and 17 solo albums, and a focus on compact, story driven songs that move across genres to serve each narrative. His recent album Porcelain Angel has been recognized for its refined touch, confident tone, and adventurous storytelling. Drew Young, a Mississippi based Americana artist, is known for candid songwriting, engaging narratives, and performances that feel conversational. After more than twenty years touring in the United States, the UK, and Europe, he plays over forty five shows a year, has published upward of ninety songs, and has surpassed 6.5 million streams. His writing, grounded in Gulf South traditions, explores resilience, growth, redemption, and lived experience with the authenticity of a seasoned road musician. He also founded the Tiveden Americana Songwriting Camp and Festival in Sweden, an international exchange that brings together artists and industry professionals. Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers contributes as a grand prize recipient in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, the founding editor of Acoustic Guitar magazine, and the author of The Complete Singer Songwriter along with other books for musicians. The program centers on finely crafted songs and the stories behind them.

The story portrays two men sharing one body, a passionate doctor and a terrifying madman, as well as two women in love with the same man who are unaware of his hidden truth.

High Water Theatre Company presents the 1998 version of Cabaret by Joe Masteroff, John Kander, and Fred Ebb, inspired by John Van Druten’s play and the stories of Christopher Isherwood. Set in Berlin as fascism takes hold, the musical interweaves the lives of an American writer, a cabaret performer, a landlady, a Jewish fruit seller, and the community of the Kit Kat Club. As circumstances grow more dangerous, each character faces a choice to escape or press on, asking what people do when the world changes around them. This new staging incorporates immersive elements at Studio 24 Theatre. The production is directed by Thorne Hall, with music direction by Tyler Meade Young and choreography by Camille Mason. Combat and intimacy direction is by Jason Pope-Bayne, and stage management is by Rachael Lees. The cast features Sara Dreibelbis, Anna Cornell, Walker Goodemote, Maya Foos, Josh Harris, Abby Meade Young, Seamus Greene, Natasia Lee White, Savannah Gaston, Randy Thornton, Jade Briar, Jessie Dobrzynski, Katie Rotondi, Kal Johnson, Joe Calveric, and Lou Sterns. Enjoy a full night of West Coast Swing at Dominique's Dance Creations with two Beyond Basics workshops whose topics will be announced, a separate crash course designed for newcomers, and social dancing afterward. If you have little or no West Coast Swing experience, the crash course is a great starting point, no partner is needed, and arriving early makes check-in easy so you can get the most from the social. Admission covers all workshops and the social. Pricing is $8 with preregistration, $15 at the door, and free for anyone attending Salt City Westie for the first time. Cash and Venmo are accepted, and Zelle is not. The studio shares a very small parking lot with another business, so plan a little extra time to park and check in. The Day of Orature spotlights youth expression through a juried performance competition with an open call. First Responder Appreciation Day with the Syracuse Mets brings a community celebration to NBT Bank Stadium, hosted by the Onondaga County Fire Coalition in partnership with ESIP, the Emergency Services Insurance Program, and Fire District Mutual of NY Insurance Company. The coalition includes the Onondaga County Fire Chiefs Association, Onondaga County Volunteer Firefighters Association, Onondaga County Volunteer Fire Police Association, and the Central Region Fire Districts Association. A pre and post game tailgate in the parking lot will feature food and drinks, plus time to connect, play a few games, or simply relax. Group seating is set for Sections 217 and 218 along the third base line next to the berm, giving kids room to play while staying close to family and friends. In-person Pregnancy, Birth and Breastfeeding Classes

Get ready for labor, birth, and life with a newborn in a supportive, in person classroom setting. These free sessions are designed for pregnant patients and their partners or other support people, and are especially helpful from 28 weeks of pregnancy and beyond. Registration is optional and walk ins are welcome. You are welcome to bring water and snacks. The program follows a four topic rotation each month so you can drop in when it fits your schedule. One class focuses on the final weeks of pregnancy, how to recognize labor, and what to expect upon arriving at the hospital. Another covers the childbirth process, comfort strategies, partner involvement, vaginal birth, and immediate recovery after delivery. A third reviews common medical interventions, labor induction, and cesarean birth, and includes a tour of the Labor and Delivery and Postpartum units. The final class centers on the postpartum transition, newborn care, mood changes, and breastfeeding education. You may attend any session in any order during your pregnancy. If possible, bring a support person and the education book from your OB provider titled Your Guide to Pregnancy, Birth, and Parenting, a five chapter spiral bound guide.

Learn the basics of this modern Japanese technique, pronounced key-new-sigh-ga, which turns fabric scraps into dimensional works that resemble quilts or fabric paintings. Ashe will demonstrate how to layer and tuck fabric into grooves on a foam board, using vibrant textiles, texture, and traditional no-sew inlay methods to create a finished 8 by 8 inch sunset piece. As attention grows, he is pulled closer to the grieving family, drifts from his own mother, and begins a relationship with the girl he admires. The deeper the deception goes, the more he must choose between living inside the lie or telling the truth and risking everything he has gained. The musical earned six Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Score, and features a fast paced score by songwriting duo Pasek and Paul. Italian Wannabe, a film by Steve Dabal, follows a celebrated Los Angeles chef who chooses to begin again in a quiet village in the Italian countryside, not to run from the past but to savor life anew. Bill Disselhorst and his wife Anne built Fiore Market Café in Los Angeles into a place known for its tight-knit community and its fresh bread, and shortly after it earned a spot on Yelp’s Top 100 Restaurants in America, the café was sold. Years later Bill returns to Casperia, a medieval Italian town where his love of food first took root. There he slows his pace, kneads dough by hand, shares meals with neighbors, and reconnects with the enduring ties that remain when other things fall away. The World Oddities Expo brings its first annual Syracuse edition to The Oncenter in Hall B, transforming the venue into a traveling showcase of the strange and spectacular. A highlight is the touring Deformed Exhibit, featuring real, rare specimens with medical anomalies, with combo ticket options available for those seeking early shopping access through VIP entry. Her recent EP, 52 Hurts, reflects on solitude and resilience, drawing inspiration from the 52 hertz whale. AUK, an instrumental and improvisational indie rock quartet based in Syracuse, New York, builds expansive, atmospheric soundscapes, with a style often compared to Explosions in the Sky and Sigur Rós. Together they offer a program that moves from quiet reflection to sweeping crescendos.
