    Wildcard: Alash

Marathon Center for the Performing Arts, 200 W Main Cross St, Findlay
    See details

Alash showcases the overtone-rich art of Tuvan throat singing, producing multiple pitches at once while keeping the music rooted in tradition. Their arrangements weave in contemporary touches such as intricate harmonies, instruments from the West, and modern song structures, yet the core sound and spirit remain unmistakably Tuvan. Trained from childhood and later educated at Kyzyl Arts College as Tuva began opening to the West, the musicians formed a traditional ensemble and earned numerous awards at international xöömei competitions, both together and individually. Their first United States tour came through the OpenWorld Leadership program of the Library of Congress and the National Endowment for the Arts, and they have since returned on numerous occasions to receptive audiences. Coverage from the Washington Post praised the music’s impact and noted the audience’s amazed response.
