Roll up your sleeves for a biscotti baking class where each participant mixes, shapes, bakes, and customizes a personal batch to take home. Guided by Pastry Chef Ann LoParo, also known as Annie, the session covers every step from dough preparation to baking techniques, along with ways to create your own flavor combinations. Instruction is hands-on and individualized, with everyone working on their own recipes instead of group projects. Along the way, you will pick up practical methods you can use later to recreate these treats or apply the skills to other desserts. Annie has taught more than 1,300 baking classes to students of many ages, both locally and online, and her classes have been featured in Country Living Magazine and Parade Magazine. Class size is limited to 10 participants. This class is open to ages 10 and up, and anyone under 18 must have a parent or legal guardian complete a consent form for each student. This skills-focused class helps shooters who are new to pistol-mounted red dot sights or seeking additional training gain the knowledge to maximize performance. Led by certified red dot sight instructors, it is designed for those already familiar with basic pistol operation and concentrates on transitioning from iron sights to an RDS-equipped handgun. Instruction covers red dot specific equipment, maintenance, mounting, and handling malfunctions, the zeroing process, techniques for locating, tracking, and quickly re-acquiring the dot after a reload, one-handed shooting and weapon manipulation, and a variety of drills that reinforce these skills. A basic pistol course is required beforehand. Included are instruction by a certified red dot firearms instructor and range fees. Participants are encouraged to use their own firearm and must bring a functional pistol with a mounted red dot sight, two to three magazines, safety glasses, hearing protection, and 200 rounds of ammunition. Ammunition can be purchased in the classroom before the class. Some supplies may be available to buy or borrow, and questions about availability can be directed to Action Defense prior to attending.

Cleveland Metroparks Zoo hosts the Ugly Sweater 5K presented by CrossCountry Mortgage. Runners are encouraged to show off their most festive holiday attire while making their way along a course that winds through the zoo. Early registration is $30, with the fee increasing to $35 closer to race day. Every participant receives a custom T-shirt, a finisher medal, post-race refreshments, and admission to continue exploring the zoo after the finish.

Holiday folklore comes to life in a costumed sidewalk parade presented by Lakewood Art Supply and Oktober’s. Attendees can dress as favorite winter creeps and legends such as Krampus, Mari Lywd, the Yule Cat, Frau Perchta, Yeti, or Gryla, celebrating tales that promote good behavior or caution against the cold. The procession begins in the Oktober’s parking lot, continues to Elbur, about a half mile away, and then returns. A hot chocolate bar will be available at Madison Park. Leading up to the walk, classes offer opportunities to make masks and accessories so costumes are ready for the parade.

The Sammy DeLeon and Jackie Warren Quartet, featuring Kip Reed and Chris Burge, brings a Latin jazz focus to the B Side Lounge. Sammy DeLeon, a Lorain native introduced to timbales by his brother, was performing professionally by 13, worked with Cobra, Orquesta Charambo, and Impacto Nuevo, then led Sammy DeLeon y Su Orquesta, sharing stages with El Gran Combo, Tito Rojas, and Tony Vega. He mentors student percussionists in Latin rhythms, and his band is often nicknamed Sammy Salsa College. Jackie Warren, originally from Colorado, studied classical piano at Oberlin Conservatory with Sedmara Zakarian Rutstein while exploring jazz with Wendell Logan, Neal Creque, and Kenny Davis, and later earned a master’s in classical performance from Cleveland State University with Andrius Kuprevicius and Daniel Barber. She leads a trio with Peter Dominguez and Ron Godale and frequently performs salsa and Latin jazz with DeLeon’s ensemble. Her credits include appearances with artists and groups such as David Fathead Newman, Clark Terry, Jane Bunnett and the Spirits of Havana, Los Munequitos de Matanzas, Jimmy Heath, Gerald Wilson, the Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, and the Jazz Heritage Orchestra. The talk covers karma, reincarnation, spiritual evolution, and the divine plan, offering a clear overview of core Theosophical ideas. Part of the Theosophy Vibes series, this program looks inside the Theosophical Society, founded in 1875, which helped bring esotericism, occultism, and Eastern religious thought to wider audiences in the West and has influenced many spiritual figures, organizations, and movements. Noy Chounramany, a Theosophist, Co-Freemason, and Rosicrucian, is an author and lecturer on Theosophy, Freemasonry, comparative religion, spirituality, and esotericism. Attendance is free, and voluntary donations are appreciated but not required.
