Naturalist Katie, known as the Curious Naturalist, leads a guided stroll through Castalia Quarry MetroPark, revealing fresh discoveries about the natural world along the way. It is suitable for all ages. Walk ups are welcome and no registration is required.

Settle into an evening of calm with a shaded deep-stretch yoga session, then head to the reservoir for a peaceful paddle as the sun sets. Participants meet and park at the starting location, ride a bus to the reservoir with kayaks, then bus back to their vehicles afterward. The cost is $30 and includes kayak rental. Pre-registration is available, and walk-ins are accepted. An experienced guide will be present during the kayaking portion.

The series unfolds over six Saturdays in September and October, and this session highlights overlooked accounts of men from the American Revolution. Presented by La Familia Mancha Entertainment, LLC and the Village of Gibsonburg, the 4th annual Hispanic Heritage Festival celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with live music, dance, and cultural experiences. Secretto headlines, traveling in from McAllen, Texas. The lineup also features Los Aztecas from Toledo, Celestina y Los Sanchez from Battle Creek, Desastre from Saginaw, and Los Hermanos featuring Julia Campos and Meche Trejo. Latin Dance Toledo and Bowling Green lead a complimentary salsa class, and Latidos de la Diaspora shares Mexican folkloric dance and ensemble performances. Music comes from DJ Fercho Garcia of Toledo, the MC is Bumper Gomez from Bumper's Wacky Wednesday out of San Antonio, and American Luchacore, LLC adds Lucha Libre style wrestling. Expect food trucks, vendors, dancing, and activities for families. General admission is $10 in advance and $15 at the door, with VIP options available online. Children 5 and under receive free general admission, and Gibsonburg students get in free with a school ID. A cash bar is available for guests 21 and over, and outside food or drinks are not permitted. Security will be strict with zero tolerance for fighting and no weapons allowed.

Celebrate the arrival of fall with a guided crafting session where participants create a scarecrow from a faux pumpkin. Learn to shape burlap into a hat embellished with seasonal flowers and add raffia for hair to finish the design, making a piece well suited for a table centerpiece, the mantle, or the hearth. Instruction is provided by Sharon Weddell. The supply fee is $40 per participant. Guests can explore the gardens at no extra cost. Reservations can be made in advance.

Catch the Spiegel Grove Squires take on the Akron Black Stockings on the grass just behind the Hayes Home. The match is played in the style of Civil War era base ball, a period when the sport was beginning to gain popularity, and features the Spiegel Grove Squires, the vintage base ball team of the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums. A refreshment tent will be available. There is no charge for admission. Whirlpool Corp. sponsors the Squires.

The Black Stockings travel to Spiegel Grove to face the Squires in a set of matches, with the trees adding to the challenge.

Following the flow of the seasons, the program moves from sowing medicinal seeds to assembling a well supplied home apothecary of handmade remedies. Summer sessions focus on garden care and building a personal materia medica, including plant identification and exploration of each herb’s actions, chemistry, and energetics. In autumn the emphasis turns to harvesting and processing at peak potency, with guidance on washing, drying, garbling, and proper storage so materials remain effective. As the year winds down, the class shifts to medicine making, offering hands-on practice creating tinctures, salves, infused oils, and syrups for wintertime support. The series welcomes growers with any amount of space, from a full garden to a few sunny containers. Enrollment is capped at 20 to keep the experience personal and practical. The full season option is $250 and includes seven classes, while single class drop-ins are $40 as space allows.
