At Riffe Center Studio Theatres in Columbus, the professional premiere of a coming-of-age play follows Harper and Amelia after their nail-biting finish in last year’s Mount Vernon Battle of the Books. Determined to lead their teams to a win, they face personal pressures that spill into practice. Stress takes on a vivid form, books seem to leap off the page, and a secret society bans their reading list and shuts down the competition. The students rally to keep the contest alive while working to mend strained relationships. Honored with the 2026 Excellence in Playwriting Award from the New Hampshire Theatre Awards after a production at Andy’s Summer Playhouse, the piece blends comedy, drama, movement, and touches of magical realism to explore poverty, grief, stress responses, single-parent households, legacy, friendships, and the effects of book banning.

Give shelter dogs fresh air and individual attention during a community dog walking event at the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center in Columbus, Ohio. The shelter cares for 200 to 300 dogs on any given day, and volunteer walkers help ensure each one gets time out of the kennel. No advance sign-up is needed, and newcomers are welcome to drop in. This is an outdoor, weather-dependent activity, and any changes due to conditions will be shared on the event page. If you would like updates and reminders, you can RSVP. When you arrive, go to the large fenced walking yard behind the building and check in at the registration table. This interactive workshop centers on psychic ability, intuition, and inner knowing. This is the third class in a continuing palmistry series, and each session can be taken on its own or as part of the full course. Lecture Series: Watching the Moon, The View from Newark

Octagon Earthworks Visitor Center, 125 N 33rd St, Newark · verified Oct 4
    See details

Physicist Bob Neinast presents a talk that looks at how Indigenous communities of the Newark Valley watched the movements of the sun and moon. Rather than focusing on technical astronomy, he will emphasize the recurring celestial cycles those observers tracked and how those patterns informed the design and construction of the Newark Earthworks. The program also points to landscape elements that may have contributed to the valley’s significance as a sacred place. Neinast’s connection to the Earthworks began in 2009 during a pilgrimage from Chillicothe to Newark that followed, as closely as possible, the path of the Great Hopewell Road. That experience sparked his ongoing exploration of the phenomena associated with the flourishing of the Hopewell Culture nearly two thousand years ago. The event takes place at The Octagon Visitor Center. General admission is $10. Ohio History Members are admitted free, and students receive free admission with a valid student ID. No advance registration is required, and payment is collected at the program.

Honored with the 2026 Excellence in Playwriting Award from the New Hampshire Theatre Awards following a production at Andy’s Summer Playhouse, this coming-of-age work weaves comedy, drama, magical realism, and movement as it explores poverty, grief, stress responses, single-parent households, legacy, friendship, and the realities of book banning.

A&R Music Bar, 391 Neil Ave, Columbus · verified Oct 4
    See details

Colby Acuff brings the Handmade Horsepower Tour to A&R Music Bar in Columbus for an all ages show. The Idaho-born country artist is known for a rugged, no-frills sound rooted in his mountain upbringing, candid lyrics, and a fiercely independent spirit. A self-taught musician who learned piano in early childhood, picked up drums and guitar soon after, and began performing and writing as a kid, he draws inspiration from bluegrass pioneers, country outlaws, and modern-day nonconformists while staying true to his own course. After studying economics and choosing life on the river over office work, he guided fly-fishing by day and packed bars at night, releasing three independent albums between 2020 and 2022, including If I Were the Devil. That track has been streamed more than 27 million times, with career streams surpassing 42 million. Now working with Sony Music Nashville and producer and engineer Eddie Spear at Nashville’s Sound Emporium, he is rolling out a first major label project that pairs more gritty, solo-written material with his first co-writes. The show highlights two-stepping honky-tonk drive and quiet, fireside reflection, delivered with plainspoken vocals and stories drawn straight from lived experience.

    See details

American singer songwriter and storyteller Griffin House takes the stage with heartfelt songs and vivid tales shaped by more than two decades of touring and a catalog that spans over thirteen albums. His debut, “Lost and Found,” earned national attention on CBS Sunday Morning, where music critic and former MTV/VH1 executive Bill Flanagan highlighted him as a standout emerging voice. Years of grassroots touring, including opening slots for John Mellencamp and the Cranberries, set the foundation for a national breakthrough with an appearance on Late Night with Craig Ferguson and the underground hit “The Guy That Says Goodbye to You is Out of His Mind.” His path through the music world is explored in the Amazon Prime documentary “Rising Star,” which follows the balance between a life on the road, marriage, fatherhood, and sobriety. House’s songs have been featured on prime time television series such as One Tree Hill, Rescue Me, Party of Five, and Everwood, and his work has been covered by Paste, No Depression, and Rolling Stone. American Songwriter has praised his raw talent. His five song EP “The Tides,” created with Grammy winning producer Jacquire King, adds another chapter to a career built on honest songwriting and compelling storytelling.

REP Fieldhouse, 5524 N Hamilton Rd, Columbus · verified Oct 4
    See details

REP Fieldhouse in Columbus hosts an indoor coed 4s volleyball tournament that brings the organized and fun vibe of previous sand events to the indoor court. Teams of four are the standard entry with at least one woman on the roster, and the field is limited to sixteen teams. To offer another way to participate, four team slots are initially set aside for pairs who want to be matched with another duo for the entire tournament. When teams are formed from pairs, the goal is to include at least one woman per team, although all-male lineups may occur and are permitted. Please register under the designated post and share any roster updates as a new comment there. Entry is $140 per team, paid in a single Venmo transaction to @Alexey-Kaminski with a message that includes “Jamboreee” plus the captain’s first and last name. Payment is required before the event, and unpaid teams may be replaced by the waitlist. Competition starts with pool play, then the top two teams from each pool advance to a Gold bracket and the bottom two move to a Silver bracket. The format and brackets may adjust based on turnout. Prizes include Venmo payouts to first and second in the upper bracket along with shirts, while the lower bracket awards shirts, with the possibility of additional prizes depending on participation. If a teammate is missing at the start, a substitute may be used with the opposing team’s approval, and delays can shorten games. No substitutions are allowed during bracket play unless there is an injury and both teams agree. Match rules include no restrictions on serving. Directional blocking is allowed, and a block does not count as a touch. Open-hand serve receive is legal. Setting the ball over is allowed when clean and perpendicular to the setter’s body. Double contacts, lifts, and carries are not allowed, and net and foot faults are violations. Pursuit is not permitted due to court spacing. Any dispute results in a replay. For questions, send a direct message to Alexey Kaminski.

Spend the night investigating the Fairfield County Infirmary during an immersive ghost hunt that blends hands-on exploration with the site’s layered past. Participants explore areas known for heightened activity while experienced paranormal investigators offer guidance on evidence gathering and how to read subtle signs of a possible presence. Small groups help keep the experience focused and personal, and the investigation extends through rarely seen parts of the building. Tools such as EMF meters, spirit boxes, and thermal imagers are part of the instruction, and historical background adds context to what may unfold. Reports connected to the infirmary include disembodied voices, figures that appear at the edge of vision, abrupt pockets of cold, the unexplained movement of objects, a persistent sense of being watched, and strong emotional traces in certain rooms. Refreshments are available through the night, and designated rest areas provide a place to pause between sessions. The experience is for adults 18 and older. The cost is $129 per person and capacity is limited. Sturdy, comfortable footwear, warm layers, and a reliable flashlight are recommended, and personal investigation gear is welcome. A sleeping bag or camping mat can make breaks in the rest areas more comfortable. This is a demanding setting in an aging structure, so participants should be prepared for physical and emotional challenges and remain mindful of potential hazards.

    2026 Haunted Hive Co-Ed 6s

4025 Summit Rd SW, Pataskala · verified Oct 4
    See details

The Haunted Hive Co-Ed 6s volleyball tournament supports the Licking Heights High School boys volleyball program and will be held at Licking Heights High School. This adult co-ed event uses three courts, is limited to 15 teams, and is $150 per team, with every team guaranteed at least seven sets. Two competition levels are offered. The upper division suits teams running 5-1 or 6-2 systems with strong hitters across most positions. The lower division is less intense and typically features one or two primary attackers, with the setter often working from the front middle. Play begins with round-robin pools and moves into a single-elimination bracket. The current plan is two randomly drawn pools of five for the upper division and one five-team pool for the lower division, with adjustments made based on how many teams enter each level. Roster rules require at least two women on the court at all times. If a woman is designated as a libero, she may serve for only one player. In that lineup, one serve rotation with only one woman on the floor is allowed, but only during that team’s serve in that specific rotation, and at all other times two women must be on the court. Players on the championship team in each division will receive a tee shirt. Costumes that are appropriate for the venue are encouraged, with the boys program’s head coach selecting a best-costumed team to receive gift bags. Concessions are planned, and school team players will assist with line judging and at the concession area. A waiting list is maintained, and entries are finalized with full payment through Hometown Ticketing once the organizer provides the payment link.

    Fairfield County Infirmary Ghost Hunt

Fairfield County Infirmary, 1611 Granville Pike, Lancaster · verified Oct 4
    See details

Experience an overnight paranormal investigation inside Fairfield County Infirmary, a historic site long associated with lingering memories and a charged atmosphere. Once a place of refuge and final passage for many, it is known for accounts of soft, source-less voices, quick shadowy movement, sudden cold spots, objects that seem to shift without explanation, a persistent sensation of being observed, and emotional weight that settles in certain areas. Through the night, participants explore some of the most active and rarely seen spaces in small groups alongside experienced investigators who demonstrate methods for documenting unexplained activity. Hands-on segments use tools such as EMF meters, spirit boxes, and thermal imaging while teaching how to read subtle signs and gather evidence. The building’s past is interwoven with the investigation, adding context to the stories tied to its corridors. Refreshments are available to keep energy up during the long hours, and quiet areas are set aside for rest between sessions. Plan for extended time on your feet in a chilly, aging structure. Wear sturdy shoes, dress in warm layers, bring a reliable flashlight, and consider any personal gear you trust. A sleeping bag or camping mat can make breaks more comfortable. Admission is $129 per person and capacity is limited. Attendees must be 18 or older. This experience can be physically and emotionally demanding, and the site includes hazards typical of an older building. Participation is at your own risk and personal belongings are your responsibility.

Light refreshments are available, and designated rest areas offer a chance to regroup during the long hours. The cost is $129 per person, capacity is limited, and all attendees must be 18 or older. Plan for uneven, aging surroundings by wearing sturdy shoes and warm layers, and bring a reliable flashlight. Personal investigation equipment is welcome, and a sleeping bag or camping mat can make the rest areas more comfortable. This is a demanding setting both physically and emotionally, and the historic building may contain hazards, so participation involves accepting personal risk and responsibility for belongings.

    Fairfield County Infirmary Ghost Hunt

Fairfield County Infirmary, 1611 Granville Pike, Lancaster
    See details

Spend the night exploring the Fairfield County Infirmary during a guided paranormal investigation that opens rarely seen, highly active areas of the building. Small groups move through the dark with experienced investigators who demonstrate evidence-collection methods and show how to use tools such as EMF meters, spirit boxes, and thermal cameras. Along the way, the site’s history is woven into the experience to illuminate the lives and moments that may continue to echo through its halls. Reports associated with this location include faint voices without a clear source, shadowy figures glimpsed at the edge of vision, abrupt cold spots that contrast with the surrounding air, and objects that appear to move on their own. Many visitors also describe a persistent sense of being watched and powerful emotional impressions that seem to cling to certain rooms. Refreshments are available throughout the night, and designated quiet spaces are set aside for rest. The experience is for adults, with a minimum age of 18. Admission is $129 per person. Comfortable, sturdy footwear, warm layers for an old building, a dependable flashlight, and any trusted personal investigation gear are recommended. A sleeping bag or camping mat can make breaks in the rest areas more comfortable. This is a demanding event in an aging structure with potential hazards, and participation includes accepting all associated risks and responsibility for personal belongings.
