The Stomping Jacksons bring the unmistakable energy of New Orleans street music to lead a community lantern parade in Vermilion. The procession gathers at Main Street Beach, then follows the sidewalks south along Main Street, turns west on Liberty Avenue, continues to Grand Street, and concludes at the Vermilion Lighthouse. Lanterns will glow in the early evening as the band guides the route through downtown. People taking part are encouraged to design and carry LED lanterns, and there is no cost to participate. For safety, open flames and lantern releases are not allowed, and pets are not permitted within the parade procession. Community workshops and take-home kits to help with lantern making will be announced in the coming months. Organizers describe the event as a community-centered celebration that invites residents and visitors to create, connect, and reflect during the season, offering families, friends, and neighbors a moment to come together between the summer bustle and the holidays. Those who prefer to watch can find good viewing along the route, including at Exchange Park, the Fulper Lot lawn, and Friendship Park. The event is presented in collaboration with Public Art Vermilion, Vermilion in Bloom, the Arts Guild of Vermilion, and Shores & Islands Ohio.

This session features Andre Leone, a DJ with more than 25 years of experience in Chicago-inspired house and Detroit-rooted techno, and a founding member of Cleveland’s Disfunktional collective. His background includes helping shape underground scenes from Ohio to Hawaii and sharing stages with Marshall Jefferson, Todd Terry, and DJ Sneak.

Baroque specialist Jane Glover leads a regal program featuring lively suites from Handel’s Water Music and Music for the Royal Fireworks. Soprano Julia Bullock makes her TCO debut in Britten’s shimmering song cycle Les Illuminations, and Stacy Garrop’s Spectacle of Light offers a contemporary take on the 1749 celebration that inspired Handel’s fireworks music.

The Slackers bring their long-running mix of ska, reggae, and soul to Grog Shop. The NYC sextet has spent more than three decades on the road, releasing 16 albums and 5 EPs while building a devoted global following. Their work has earned praise from major outlets, with the New York Times highlighting their New York roots, Brooklyn Vegan noting their distinctive style, and the Washington Post recognizing their enduring strength. Recent releases on Pirates Press Records include the Money is King EP, the single My Last Star in tribute to Hepcat’s Greg Lee, and the Lost and Found Vol. 2 collection, which produced a surprise streaming favorite with Diskambobulated. Their 2022 album Don’t Let the Sunlight Fool Ya became their first to chart and even qualified them as a Billboard new artist decades into their career. SplinterMount features olula negre on cello and voice, Torstein Johansen on bass, Alex Henry on saxophone, and Grace Harper on piano. Born from Cleveland’s monthly Outlab improv sessions, the quartet brings together its members’ varied influences through free improvisation, exploring tone, timbre, and texture to create an expressive, unified sound. The group has opened for Tatsuya Nakatani and Jessica Pavone. ME::YOU is a collaborative project by Cleveland artists LaToya Kent and RA Washington. Drawing on years of work together in Mourning [A] BLKstar, the duo combines improvisation, minimal production, and expressive vocals. Their music draws from a wide range of traditions, including post-punk, industrial, dub, hip-hop, free improvisation, noise, and Black vernacular music, bringing personal narrative and sonic experimentation together.
