Family events in Mount Vernon, OH

More than two decades ago, community members gathered to honor Mount Vernon’s first two hundred years. Though many of those voices are no longer with us, their memories have been preserved in the documentary Our Story, 200 Years, which will be screened at the Woodward Opera House. This event is presented in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office, the Woodward Opera House, the Knox County Historical Society, and the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. All are welcome, and light refreshments will be available.

Each Thursday from May through September, a pop-up library sets up at Lincoln Center Park in Fulton. Browse the collection, check out items, and return borrowed materials at this convenient stop.

Nestled in the woods of Butler, Ohio, this once-a-year outdoor marketplace celebrates fall with more than 200 artisans showcasing handmade creations for the home, bath and body, apparel, accessories, and beyond. Nearly 30 food vendors offer tasty options while live music adds to the atmosphere. Families can look forward to pony rides, magic shows, and horse-drawn wagon rides. Admission is $12 for adults and $3 for children ages 6 to 12. Parking is free and golf cart shuttles are available. Bring cash for easy shopping, and please leave pets at home, with service dogs welcome. The Prairie Peddler Festival takes place rain or shine.

This meet-up at Johnstown Dog Park offers an hour of play for dogs and a welcoming place for their humans to connect. The Tail Blazers Dog Club meet-up brings the community together so pups can run and play while owners meet fellow dog lovers and encourage both canine and human connection.

Celebrate the magic of the Madrigal family at a free family movie night. Bring blankets and lawn chairs, and plan to arrive early to choose a comfortable spot at the Schnormeier Event Center, also called the SEC. Admission is free, and the lively soundtrack is sure to stick with you after the credits roll.

Created especially for young listeners, this one-hour symphony program features a playful theme that keeps kids engaged from start to finish. Children are welcome to move, dance, and come to the front to explore the instruments, with a chance for a few to try their hand at conducting. The Gund Gallery at Kenyon College adds to the experience with hands-on art activities for the Symphony’s youngest patrons. After the music ends, families can enjoy cookies and cider and meet the musicians. Attendees may bring their own chairs or use seating provided. Admission is free. Partnership events receive partial support from the Knox County Foundation and the City of Mount Vernon Lodging Excise Tax.
