Free events in Mount Vernon, OH

More than two decades ago, community members gathered to honor Mount Vernon’s first two hundred years. Though many of those voices are no longer with us, their memories have been preserved in the documentary Our Story, 200 Years, which will be screened at the Woodward Opera House. This event is presented in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office, the Woodward Opera House, the Knox County Historical Society, and the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County. All are welcome, and light refreshments will be available.

A staff member leads a free, all-ages walk through the orchard at Branstool Orchards. Participants gather beside the market at the new Flex Space. Strollers are not recommended, as the route includes fields and rolling hills. It is an opportunity to take in the beauty of the farm.

Celebrate the magic of the Madrigal family at a free family movie night. Bring blankets and lawn chairs, and plan to arrive early to choose a comfortable spot at the Schnormeier Event Center, also called the SEC. Admission is free, and the lively soundtrack is sure to stick with you after the credits roll.

Spend quiet time in shared reflection with others. The session includes a 20 minute silent practice followed by a discussion. No prior meditation experience is needed, and it suits anyone who feels they struggle with meditating. Attendance is free, but registration is required.
