Madison Branch Library MRCPLKusarifundo | Flexible Weapons Seminar
This seminar focuses on the kusari fundo, a compact weight-and-chain tool, to build practical self-protection skills. Instruction highlights situational awareness, managing distance, striking and blocking, shifting offline rather than retreating straight back, taking control of the encounter, and maintaining composure under pressure to create space and get home safely. The principles are designed to transfer to everyday flexible items like a belt, a purse strap, a phone charger, or a scarf or tie, emphasizing that effective safety depends on movement, timing, and control more than on the tool itself. It offers a distinctive way to train awareness and adaptability while learning to control space in situations that reflect real life. No prior experience is required, and the material is taught step by step.

Mansfield Shotokan KarateD&D Weekly Campaign: Game of Gum Drops
Bring a level 3 character for a drop in, drop out Dungeons & Dragons campaign set in a perilous realm forged from candy. In this politically tangled confectionary world, rival houses send adventurers on reckless errands to gain influence or even reach for the sugar throne. Parties gather resources, devise intricate schemes, and mount inventive infiltrations of supposedly unassailable strongholds, steering a fractured kingdom toward their designs. Quick words and quiet blades matter here... the Sucrosian way favors both. The table’s goal is to explore strange places and meet unusual figures while collaboratively grounding the setting, even as heroes chase treasure and acclaim. As play unfolds, personal histories surface and the bittersweet heart of the world takes shape, culminating in a path that could lead to a challenge against the Sucrosian Overlord. The mood leans secretive and tense, with room for surprises and the occasional betrayal. Big, offbeat ideas are encouraged when they make sense within the fiction. A slight breach of etiquette may not draw immediate blood, but slighting a despot can bring consequences later. Seats are limited to seven participants. For details or questions, contact Joe Seals on Facebook or @tydoxo on Discord.
