    Teacher Comedy Night!

Helium Comedy Club, 912 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland · verified Jul 31
    See details

The Unteachables roll into Helium Comedy Club in Portland with their Paid Time Off Tour, a lively salute to life in and beyond the classroom. Once the talkative back-row kids who later stumbled into teaching, this crew delivers material that extends well past school stories, welcoming anyone who needs a breather or simply loves to laugh. Their credits include appearances on NBC, The Breakfast Club, the New York Post, and Roast Battle League. Fresh off their Summer Break Special, the show features a former teacher of the year alongside a comic who even lost a job over TikTok posts, pairing uncensored sets with a freewheeling audience Q and A. Miss Redacted brings years in the classroom to the mic, working through what therapy and pay scales never fixed. A true Southerner with a soft spot for Waffle House and camo mini skirts, she co-hosts the Teacher Quit Talk podcast and has drawn millions of TikTok views, with no lesson objectives in her act. Stephen Taylor, a Louisiana native now in Kansas City, blends perspective, storytelling, and Southern charm as he performs at clubs, bars, and colleges nationwide, including his own classroom. He has appeared on The Breakfast Club and in the New York Post, performed at San Francisco Sketchfest, and his debut album The Bottom Half reached number one on iTunes and airs on SiriusXM. Rounding out the lineup, Lou Pharis hails from small-town Louisiana and once chased NFL and American Ninja Warrior dreams before finding his lane in public education and on stage. A tough day at school led to his first open mic, and since then he has amassed over 100 million social views, headlined rooms like Zanies, Comedy Works, and Wiseguys, been seen on NBC and Bored Teachers, and performed at festivals across the country.

    Jerry's Middle Finger

Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W Burnside St, Portland · verified Jul 31
    See details

As part of the Days Between celebration, Jerry’s Middle Finger brings a faithful and communal tribute to the Jerry Garcia Band’s songbook to Crystal Ballroom in an all-ages setting. Formed in 2015 by Garrett Deloian, Rodney Newman, Son Vo, Jon Gold, Halina Janusz, and Lisa Malsberger, the group grew from early Los Angeles club shows to appearances at landmark rooms including Great American Music Hall, the Troubadour, The Ardmore, and Garcia’s at the Capitol Theatre. Their performances focus on the music Garcia made outside the Grateful Dead, weaving blues, reggae, Motown, gospel, and psychedelic rock into a set that changes from night to night. Favorites like Deal and Cats Under the Stars sit alongside deeper selections from Legions of Mary and collaborations with Merl Saunders, and arrangements can shift between eras with different approaches to songs such as Midnight Moonlight. Onstage, the band emphasizes feel and connection. Deloian’s guitar and vocals echo Garcia’s balance of structure and improvisation, Gold’s keys nod to Melvin Seals with touches that recall Keith Godchaux and Nicky Hopkins, and Janusz and Malsberger, known as the Ladyfingers, lift the music with rich, gospel-tinged harmonies. More than a cover act, they study tones, parts, and vocals to honor the originals while creating a shared experience with the crowd. The Days Between series is a nine-day salute to Jerry Garcia’s life, named for the Grateful Dead song and dedicated to the span between his birthday and the anniversary of his passing. All ages are welcome.
