An Evening With Geordie Greep at Revolution Hall

    1300 SE Stark St, Portland
    See details

Geordie Greep steps out from black midi with The New Sound, his first solo release, embracing the idea that music can be anything and savoring the freedom of working without guardrails. Crafted with the contributions of more than thirty session musicians on two continents, including whirlwind dates in Brazil with local players tracked in a day or two, the album delivers an all-embracing strain of alternative pop that balances the outlandish with exacting craft. Echoes of Frank Zappa, Frank Sinatra and Scott Walker ripple through the music. The instrumental title track bursts with jazz funk verve, fueled by brass, wah wah textures, bass punches, layered choruses and quick-stepping polyrhythms. Songs swing from hush to clamor and love to ignite at the start and finish. The stories unfold as theatrical vignettes with Greep as a kind of master of ceremonies, circling a theme of desperation as characters bluff control and then unravel, amid scenes that wander through cafes, bars, rented rooms, cabarets and curious museums. Holy Holy floats a nightclub fantasy on early 2000s indie colors and swaggering Latin big band flourishes, even calling for three pianos. Ever restless, Greep talks about convening new groups in new places so the results never land the same way twice.

The Lisbon-born multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer launched her career after studying at Berklee, releasing five albums and an EP, touring in Jacob Collier’s DJESSE band, and supporting Jessie J, Gipsy Kings, Charlotte Cardin, and The Paper Kites. She created ITSAME, MARO!, a 100-collaboration series featuring artists such as Eric Clapton, Pablo Alborán, Lizzy McAlpine, Ivan Lins, Vitor Kley, ANAVITÓRIA, Sílvia Pérez Cruz, Maria Gadú, Mayra Andrade, Rui Veloso, and Lennon Stella. Her song saudade, saudade won Festival da Canção and placed in the top ten at Eurovision, followed by the genre-blending album can you see me?. In 2023 she released hortelã, an acoustic trio project with Catalan guitarists Darío Barroso and Pau Figueres that received the José Afonso Award for Portuguese Album of the Year. Teaming with NASAYA, she unveiled LIFELINE in 2024, leaning into a more electronic direction. Recent tours include sold-out shows worldwide with both an acoustic trio and an electronic duo, along with major-stage appearances alongside Jacob Collier, Odesza, and Parcels, plus arena opening dates for Shawn Mendes’ summer tour. Revolution Hall, 1300 SE Stark St, Portland · verified Oct 2
    See details

The Milk Carton Kids bring their Fall Tour to Revolution Hall with Paper Wings, highlighting the duo’s close harmonies and intricate acoustic interplay. Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan first drew attention in 2011 with two voices and two guitars, favoring precision and unity over volume, a hallmark that continues to shape their sound. Their seventh studio album, Lost Cause Lover Fool on Far Cry/Thirty Tigers, features nine songs that invite listeners to lean in, with roots-leaning arrangements and a deep trust in space. Over the years they have moved from early buzz to hosting a major roots music awards show in Nashville, earning four Grammy nominations and placing songs in projects like Promised Land and the comedy series Girls 5Eva. They founded Sad Songs Summer Camp to help songwriters dig deeper and launched the Los Angeles Folk Festival to spotlight musicians and comedians from across the Folk community. This performance centers the quiet details and connection that define their music, presented onstage at Revolution Hall with Paper Wings.

SOUL'D OUT PRESENTS: FRUIT BATS w/ MATTHEW LOGAN VASQUEZ

Crystal Ballroom, 1332 W Burnside St, Portland
    See details

Fruit Bats perform at Crystal Ballroom in Portland with Matthew Logan Vasquez. Guided by Eric D. Johnson, the project channels Midwestern horizons into songs that weigh the past and look ahead, a spirit captured on The Landfill, the Merge Records album that turns personal history into a towering landscape. Inspired by the immediacy of Johnson’s solo Baby Man sessions, the full-band sound was recorded largely live with minimal overdubs and shaped alongside longtime collaborator Thom Monahan. Across tracks like The Landfill, That Goddamn Sun, Think Aboutcha, and Perhaps We’re a Storm, tender vulnerability meets a lift of guitars, keys, and rhythm, shifting between exuberance and reflection. Built with bandmates David Dawda, Josh Mease, Frank LoCrasto, and Kosta Galanopoulos, Fruit Bats have become a sought presence in indie rock. This appearance brings that chemistry to the Crystal Ballroom stage, pairing intimate storytelling with a vivid in-the-moment feel, with Matthew Logan Vasquez sharing the bill.

Building their audience independently with millions of streams, they brought this approach to their 2025 full-length, Ode to the Greyhouse. The music reflects seasons of growth, tracing the band’s journey alongside the listeners who have carried these songs for years. Rather than looking back, the project offers fresh interpretations, with guitarist Todd Nichols describing how electric parts were thoughtfully reshaped for acoustic guitar so each piece feels right in its new form. The album has drawn praise from outlets like Ink 19 and Glide Magazine for both the strength of the songwriting and Glen Phillips’ enduring vocals, underscoring how these tunes resonate in any setting. On stage, that spirit becomes Rings: The Acoustic Tour, a close-up celebration of four decades of music that has meant so much to fans. Glen Phillips points to the way music can help you gather yourself and reconnect when life feels isolating. This event is all ages.

    She Wants Revenge

Revolution Hall, 1300 SE Stark St, Portland · verified Oct 2
    See details

She Wants Revenge brings its dark, danceable sound to Revolution Hall with Rosegarden Funeral Party. The duo of Justin Warfield and Adam Bravin first broke through with the 2005 single “Tear You Apart” and a self-titled debut on Geffen, then toured with Bloc Party, The Kills, and OK Go, and shared stages with Depeche Mode, The Psychedelic Furs, Placebo, and Peter Murphy. Their songs “Out of Control” and “These Things” found a home on alternative radio, helping push album sales past 300,000. Rooted in club culture and shaped by influences like Prince, Tangerine Dream, ELO, Giorgio Moroder, and 90s hip hop, the group earned a loyal following for emotive songwriting and a moody, gothic pulse. The current lineup features Justin on vocals and guitar, Adam on Bass VI and synths, Thomas Froggatt on bass, Tony Bevilacqua on guitar, and Lia Braswell on drums. Recent festival slots at Cruel World and the UK sister event Forever Now, a new song on the way, and ongoing recording for a fourth LP signal a revitalized chapter that stays true to the band’s origins while bringing fresh energy to fans worldwide.

Part of The Three Wishes Tour, this Portland show brings together Amélie Farren, Lilith Max, and Rabbitology for a showcase of narrative-driven music. Amélie crafts alt-folk and alt-pop that captures vivid, close-up moments; her releases range from the widely streamed suffering and Unsweetened Lemonade to the album Airheaded, produced by Michael Keenan in Los Angeles, and the EP Infanescence, which reflects on how time reshapes a person. With a background in acting, her performances carry a cinematic flair, full of motion and shifting intensity. NPJ Sports Complex, 4050 Fairview Industrial Dr SE, Salem · verified Oct 4
    See details

Get ready for an indoor reverse coed quads volleyball tournament at NPJ Sports Complex in Salem, Oregon, featuring pool play followed by a double-elimination bracket. The event offers two divisions, A and AA as well as B and BB, with a 24-team cap split into 18 spots for A/AA and 6 for B/BB. Seeding is determined by pool results. Four-team pools play a single game to 28 with a cap, while three-team pools play two games to 21 with a cap. Bracket play has no point caps, with best-of-three sets to 21, 21, and 15 in the winners bracket and a single game to 25 in the losers bracket. Prizes are awarded to first and second place, and there is a special award for the best team costumes, so creative outfits are encouraged. Team entry is available at an early bird rate of $150, then $175 after that. To request a spot, post that your team wants in. Full payment and a complete roster are required by the stated deadline to keep your place, otherwise the team moves to the interest list. For questions, text or call Christy at 541-971-3025. RC4 indoor guidelines are in effect, including a maximum of two men on the court, men attacking from behind the ten foot line with an upward trajectory if on or in front of that line, men allowed to block men including directional blocks on free balls, and a fake block on a woman permitted with no contact above the plane of the net. Setting the serve or any first contact is allowed, the block does not count as a team touch, and doubles on the first ball over are legal. Directional sets over are fine and need not be square, but doubling while setting the ball over on second or third contact is not allowed. Open hand tips are permitted with men honoring the back-row restriction. Servers must rotate while player positions do not need to rotate. Standard net contact applies and incidental hair contact is not a fault. Rally scoring and let serves are used, and the net is set to women’s height. Teams are already listed in both divisions, with A and AA entries such as West Coast Tribe, The Safari, Big Hits, and Minions and the Spikes of Gru, and several rosters still to be confirmed. B and BB signups include teams led by Crystal Cook, Anthony Sierra, and Joshua Galeria. Free agents are available, including Alex Carle and Stephen James on the men’s side, along with Maggie Mink, Rosa VP, Taryn Frey, and Lauren Levi among the women.

    WombSong

SaunaGlo, 1915 SE Jefferson St, Portland · verified Oct 2
    See details

For those longing for ritual and shared sacred space, this intimate song circle gathers a small community around the fire to practice an ancient tradition of exchanging songs that uplift those who connect with the Mother archetype, the aspect that nurtures, cradles, creates, and remembers. The experience weaves heat and cold as ritual allies, with optional movement between sauna and cold water. Inside the sauna, guided self-massage helps soften the body, followed by embodied vocal toning to awaken the voice. Simple call and response songs invite everyone in, with time for reflection and sharing, and no prior singing experience needed. The focus is authenticity over performance, inviting participants to remember the body and voice as vessels for care, connection, and creation. Singing together becomes a way to tend the inner Mother and welcome the sacred through shared sound. Every voice is welcomed as a gift. Attendance is limited to an intimate group of 12 women and the cost is $25 per person. The gathering is open to anyone who identifies with the mother archetype in any way, including mothers of living or nonliving children and those who mother nonhuman beings. Arriving with time to settle is encouraged, and the sauna and cold plunge may be enjoyed before the space closes to the public and the circle begins. Please plan to enter the sauna clean and dry, without oils or lotions, to support self-massage. A robe, two towels, and sandals are recommended. While the gathering is guided, participation is always by choice, and the circle holds room for open sharing, open hearts, and compassionate witnessing without attempting to fix or change another’s experience.

Angine de Poitrine at Crystal Ballroom

805 SE Sherman St, Portland · verified Oct 4
    See details

Angine de Poitrine brings a kinetic strain of rock to Crystal Ballroom in Portland, built on asymmetric rhythms, adventurous harmonies, and a driving pulse that sparks movement. Tight, propulsive drumming locks in with webs of double neck microtonal guitar, shaping trance-like spirals of sound and imagery. Since releasing Vol. 1 in 2024, the duo’s momentum has accelerated with attention from audiences, critics, and industry figures, highlighted by appearances at major festivals in Quebec such as the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, and with eyes toward Trans Musicales in Rennes. The follow up, Vol. 2, keeps the energy brisk while sidestepping straightforward repetition. It leans into sharper, more dynamic structures, hides playful details for careful listeners, and draws power from acid techno, disco, and rock. Mata Zyklek races ahead on a resonant fifth and urgent tempo, whipping through quick turns like a tongue in cheek action chase capped by a dirtbike escape. Guided by space time travelers Klek and Khn de Poitrine, the performance nods to hot dogs, pyramids, and rock’s over the top spectacle. At the core, it is all about playing rock and roll.
