    See details

Part of the Pottsville After Dark Series, this evening centers on a guided paranormal investigation inside the historic halls of the Schuylkill County Historical Society. The building preserves generations of local history, and some visitors believe traces of the past still linger among the archives. Led by Leah McKain and Amy Dee, participants begin with an overview of the site’s history and a walkthrough of the investigative tools that will be used. After learning the basics of paranormal investigation, small groups move through select areas of the building to conduct hands-on sessions with professional equipment and explore spaces rarely experienced after dark. Reservations are $65 and include an introduction to the Historical Society’s history and lore, instruction in investigation techniques, use of professional equipment, guided small-group explorations, and light refreshments during the opening portion. Comfortable, non-slip shoes are recommended. Flashlights, audio recorders, and personal investigation gear are welcome but not required. Please note that the experience covers multiple levels and may involve stairs and uneven floors. Guests with mobility concerns are encouraged to contact the Historical Society in advance with accessibility questions. For details about this and other investigations or to arrange a private investigation, contact Amy at Blackrockeventsco@gmail.com. For reservations, call the Historical Society at 570-622-7540.

    Grief Support Group

Bloomsburg Public Library, 225 Market St, Bloomsburg · verified Oct 2
    Free

A free weekly support circle led by Emily Kahn, MSW, offers a welcoming space for anyone seeking companionship, compassionate understanding, and community while navigating loss. As part of the Bloomsburg Public Library social work team, Emily brings years of experience supporting people through end of life matters and works to make conversations about death and dying more comfortable. Sessions will include bibliotherapy, using books and stories to support mental health and healing. Grief, including anticipatory grief, is deeply personal, yet many people find it easier to carry when shared. Emotions can rise and fall in nonlinear ways, and feelings of confusion, surprise, or isolation are common. There are also practical tasks to manage, such as finances, wills, and death certificates, which can feel overwhelming but are familiar to others who have faced similar losses. This program is not religious. People of all faiths or none are welcome to speak from their own experience. Confidentiality is required, and anything shared in the group must remain within the group. Emily is also available for one-on-one appointments. Contact emily@bloomsburgpl.org or call 570-784-0883.

    See details

Create a large, gleaming suncatcher from colorful crushed glass and glossy resin at Coal Cats Cafe. This hands-on session welcomes all experience levels and offers a relaxed setting where you can craft a unique piece while enjoying time around friendly felines. Drinks made to order and light snacks are available for purchase. After purchasing a ticket, indicate your preferred design by its letter, A through R, as shown in the event photo. The class is hosted by Canvas & Cabernet and uses resin, so please follow all safety directions from the instructor, including using protective gear such as gloves, eye protection, and a respirator, and working in a well-ventilated area. Handle materials carefully to prevent drips or spills. Resin needs time to cure, often hours or days, so projects may not be ready for full handling or transport immediately. Natural variations are part of the process, and small bubbles, color shifts, or other minor imperfections can occur. Care for your finished piece by keeping it away from high heat and harsh chemicals, and clean gently with mild soap and a soft cloth. Accurate measuring and mixing are essential, since improper mixing can lead to tacky or uncured resin. By participating, you accept responsibility for your project and outcomes, and Canvas & Cabernet and its instructors are not liable for injuries, reactions, damages, or results.

Work due for "Cash & Carry XIII"

The Exchange Gallery, 24 E Main St, Bloomsburg · verified Sep 27
    See details

Artists receive half inch thick MDF panels in a variety of shapes and sizes to use as their canvas, whether by painting, drawing, attaching a photograph, knitting around them, or any other approach. The panels themselves are the unifying theme of this Cash & Carry exhibition. After the show is installed, visitors can browse the work and then take part in a numbered selection process designed to keep things fair. Numbers are handed out at random, and when choosing begins the holder of number 1 selects one piece, then takes a new number and returns to the end of the line for another turn. The same pattern continues with number 2, number 3, and so on. Once the initial rush passes, shoppers may select as many pieces as they like. Upon payment, the artwork goes home with the buyer, which is the carry part of the name. Checks and cards are accepted. Most pieces are priced at $30, with $24 going to the artist. There may also be pieces at $10, $15, $20, and $50. Artists may choose to donate more or all proceeds to The Exchange.

    Hamburg · verified Sep 27

The Exchange's Listening Room presents Rick Fink

The Exchange Gallery, 24 E Main St, Bloomsburg · verified Sep 27
    See details

Dedicated to sharing the arts across the region, The Exchange hosts a monthly Blues, Americana, and Roots Listening Room in its storefront art gallery, a tradition going strong since 2017. This installment welcomes Rick Fink to Bloomsburg for his first appearance. His solo set blends raw-edged folk blues with a touch of theater and poetic swagger, delivering songs that balance grit, wit, and heartfelt emotion. Fink previously led the roots and rockabilly outfit Gas House Gorillas, whose punk-leaning Americana spirit informs his current work. The high-flying antics of earlier days have given way to a more intimate approach where the song leads and connection with the room matters most. Expect easy singalongs, quick humor, and candid asides, along with nimble wordplay set to tuneful, Beatles-inspired melodies rendered with restraint. He often pauses to share a story or reflection, shaping a living room atmosphere. His recordings include the 2019 album The Infinite Now & Then and the EP Welcome to the World, available on Bandcamp, with CDs offered at shows or by request. Past touring with Gas House Gorillas spanned the United States and Europe, and his solo travels continue through the Midwest and nearby regions, with recent stops ranging from the Big Bend Blues Bash in Ohio to The Bitter End in New York City, plus house concerts around Brooklyn and trips into Michigan and Illinois. A $10 donation is requested at the door, and BYOB is permitted. Videos of many prior Listening Room concerts can be found on The Exchange's YouTube channel.
