Free Youth Heart Screening Ages 10-22

    Harrisburg · 626 Rutherford Rd

    Free

Students ages 10 to 22 can receive a complimentary heart screening intended for those who are not currently under the care of a cardiologist and who have not been screened before by The Peyton Walker Foundation. The visit typically lasts about an hour. Participants have vital signs recorded, including blood pressure, height, and weight, undergo an electrocardiogram, and are evaluated for heart sounds and possible murmurs. Each family meets with a healthcare professional to review the results, takes home a copy of the EKG, and receives a summary of the visit. In some cases, based on family history or EKG findings, roughly one in ten students may also have an echocardiogram. If an echo is needed, plan for an additional 45 to 60 minutes. This additional test is also free. Register in advance and select a time slot. Bring printed, completed copies of the Heart Screening Consent, Waiver, and Medical Microsoft Form on the day of the screening.

    Sourdough Beyond Bread

Harrisburg · Sunflower Fields Community Garden, 2101 Sunflower Drive

Designed for bakers who want to do more with their starter than bake loaves, this hands-on class explores everyday ways to use sourdough beyond bread and builds on Sourdough Basics workshops. The session focuses on sourdough discard, covering what it is, smart storage, when it shines in the kitchen, and how to make the most of it without feeling tied to weekly bread baking. Participants prepare sourdough scones and crackers while learning how discard behaves in different recipes, which options are most forgiving, and simple techniques to put it to work at home. It is a fit for anyone with a starter, anyone who has taken a basics workshop, anyone seeking recipes beyond bread, and anyone staring at a jar of discard and wondering what to do with it. Everyone leaves with fresh scones and crackers, printed recipes, practical tips for storing and using discard, ideas for everyday applications, and added confidence using a starter beyond the classic loaf. The class is BYOB, so guests may bring their own beverage, and bringing an apron is welcome for the hands-on portion. All ticket sales are nonrefundable, but tickets may be gifted or transferred if plans change.
