Small Steps, Big Hopes is a free, 11-session group held in a confidential, supportive, trauma-informed environment. Bird in Hand and Accent Editions present a conversation about Chinese literature and the translation of MASTERS OF SLEEP, originally written in Chinese by Zhu Yue. Translator Jianan Qian speaks with writer Elizabeth DeMeo about the book’s playful questioning of ideals often described as Western, including individuality, the purpose of invention, and the sacrifices people make for wealth and greatness. They will also discuss how the translators brought the work into a new linguistic and cultural context.
