Dallas · Back Mountain Makery, 2613 Memorial Hwy

At Back Mountain Makery, craft two small ceramic ball trees in a relaxed, creative workshop designed for participants 18 and older. Each tree stands about seven inches tall, making a festive accent for a mantel, shelf, or any spot that could use holiday sparkle. Beginners are welcome. Open Glaze

    Wilkes-Barre · Peaceful Potter, 539 Scott St

Paint your own pottery at Peaceful Potter with a simple, guided process. Walk-ins are welcome, and reservations are recommended when made at least 12 hours in advance by messaging on Facebook or by email. Choose a pre-made, already fired ceramic piece, let the staff know what you selected, glaze it, then drop it at the front desk. It will be fired and ready for pickup in about two weeks. No experience is needed. Staff can help with techniques like double loading brushes, creating ombre effects, planning a design, or providing stencil outlines that disappear in the kiln so only your artwork remains. Each item is individually priced, and that price includes glazing, firing, and common add-ons like lights, stoppers, and corks. The selection spans from simple to ornate, with options starting at $4 and many pieces commonly in the $15–$25 range. There are no extra fees for glaze, seating, palettes, or kiln use. If you are short on time or cannot return for pickup, you can take your project home to paint with an included acrylic kit at no additional cost. Stay as long as you like within open studio hours. Snacks and nonalcoholic drinks are welcome, though alcohol is not permitted. Explore a frequently refreshed assortment, including many pieces made in house. Highlights include vintage pours from early 1900s molds, seasonal flats that work as decorations, magnets, or frame accents with more than 50 themed sets, functional tableware that becomes dishwasher and microwave safe after glazing and firing, wheel-thrown and hand-built pieces crafted by studio artists for you to personalize, and handmade Christmas ornaments available year round. Parties, off-site events, and wholesale options for organizations are also available.

    Sketches

    Wilkes-Barre · St. Stephen's Episcopal Church , 35 S Franklin St

At St. Stephen's Episcopal Church Wilkes-Barre, this chamber program explores how musical ideas take shape, from first impressions to fully realized works. Joaquín Turina evokes Seville with a loose, atmospheric touch in his Quartet in A minor for Piano, Violin, Viola, and Cello, Op. 67. Johannes Brahms set his C minor piano quartet aside for twenty years before returning to complete it during a period of devotion to Clara Schumann. Alfred Schnittke fashions a companion piece from seventeen surviving bars penned by the sixteen-year-old Gustav Mahler, giving that youthful fragment a long-awaited conclusion. The program includes Turina’s Quartet in A minor for Piano, Violin, Viola, and Cello, Op. 67, Schnittke’s Piano Quartet, Mahler’s Piano Quartet in A minor, and Brahms’s Piano Quartet No. 3 in C minor, performed by John Vaida on violin, Amy Iwazumi on viola, Bryan Hayslett on cello, and Bin Yu Sanford on piano. This event is supported in part by a grant from the armature and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency.
