    Tire Rack Street Survival

Temple University, 580 Meetinghouse Rd, Ambler · verified Oct 2
    See details

Teen drivers gain practical, hands on experience at the Tire Rack Street Survival school, building confidence and control by exploring the limits of their own car with guidance from an in-car coach. The program focuses on the physics of driving, smart decision making, faster reactions, and anticipating the behavior of others to promote safer habits on the road. It is a full day that blends classroom learning with extensive behind-the-wheel time. Students spend about two hours across three classroom sessions, then devote the rest of the day to real-world drills in their car, including skid recovery on a wet pad, sudden lane changes for collision avoidance, threshold braking with ABS, and a slalom to feel how weight shifts affect handling. When possible, the day also features two wheels off recovery practice and a tailgating awareness exercise. Classroom topics cover proper seating and hand position, mirror setup, the tire’s contact patch, weight transfer principles, long-range vision, and overall situational awareness, along with the challenges posed by distractions like music, phones, and extra passengers. Demonstrations may include a semi truck blind spot exercise to reveal how many vehicles disappear from view and, in some cases, an airbag deployment to reinforce safe hand placement. Parents are welcome to spend the day alongside their student, sit in on classroom sessions, and talk with instructors, who are available to answer questions. Lunch is provided for students, parents, and volunteers. The course fee is $175.

    Sylvan Esso

    Franklin Music Hall, 413 N 7th St, Philadelphia · verified Oct 4
    See details

WXPN welcomes Sylvan Esso to Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia for an all ages show. The duo of Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn is known for a vivid mix of pop hooks and exploratory electronics, a sound sharpened during the quick, inspired sessions that produced their fourth album, No Rules Sandy, in 2022. That period marked a shift toward bolder textures and a freer, more immediate approach that captures who they are at their core. Their recent work highlights this spirit, from the layered pulse of Your Reality, with a "No Rules Sandy" refrain and a string arrangement by Gabriel Kahane, to the kinetic rush of Sunburn and the shimmering pop of Didn’t Care. Echo Party leans into deep synth wobble and subtle nods to 90s electronic music, balancing bright, dance-floor momentum with shadowy undertones. Across the album, personal snippets like voicemails, birdsong, and children’s voices thread the tracks together into a seamless, diary-like flow. Sylvan Esso remains a tight-knit duo while continuing to broaden its world, from the expansive WITH concert in 2019 to the launch of their label Psychic Hotline in 2021, along with collaborative projects The A’s and Made of Oak with GRRL in 2022. Please note that ticket transfer for this event is delayed, and AXS Resale will not be available right away and may open later.

    See details

An evening of acoustic rock with a positive vibe comes to the Rusty Nail in Ardmore, PA as part of the Good Vibes Highway Tour, led by Texas-based singer-songwriter Mark Winters. This traveling show focuses on feel-good, acoustic songs and blends humor, warmth, and melody with a splash of science-minded storytelling to celebrate curiosity, kindness, and connection. Expect tunes like “Shine” that encourage sharing good energy with one another. Mark combines poetry, a background in science, and a love of community to craft his signature sound, often starting songs from a poetic spark and shaping them with structure, sometimes inspired by haiku. He first picked up a guitar to play a song for his wife on their anniversary, which sparked a lasting passion for connecting with people through music. Influences include John Mayer, Tom Petty, and Jason Mraz. The lineup also features Swedish-American artist Cecilia Ferneborg, whose candid, guitar-driven indie rock explores personal themes, drawing on roots in Swedish fiddle tunes, Appalachian traditions, and 90s euro-pop. Philadelphia-based James Haro In Storage adds vivid lyricism and dynamic arrangements, with work that has included an autobiographical one-person show at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival and a debut EP release.

UNBROKEN arrives in Philadelphia with an evening centered on stories of overdose, healing, and hope. Born from a parent’s effort to honor Gavyn after an unimaginable loss, what began with a camera and a conversation has become a collective movement supported by families, advocates, artists, people in recovery, and others carrying grief. Vizion Art Gallery will serve as a reflective space where visitors can move through the portraits, connect with one another, and, if they wish, share their own story or simply find comfort in knowing they are not alone. The project will also continue gathering stories and portraits that will inform future UNBROKEN exhibitions and its first public mural. Each city adds to the narrative, each portrait helps someone feel seen, and every story can make a difference. Hosted at Vizion Art Gallery in Philadelphia with presenting support from braeburnrx. Alash & Kyle Press

    2223 E Dauphin St, Philadelphia · verified Oct 4
    See details

An evening of adventurous sound pairs Tuvan throat singing with experimental saxophone soundscapes. Alash, a trio renowned for xöömei, the art of producing multiple tones at once, brings traditional songs shaped by a light touch of contemporary ideas. Trained since childhood by Tuvan musician Kongar-ool Ondar and educated at Kyzyl Arts College as Tuva opened to Western influences, the group earned recognition in international xöömei competitions both together and individually. Their music weaves intricate harmonies, Western instruments, and contemporary forms while remaining true to Tuvan roots. The program also features Kyle Press presenting the Susurrus / Murmuration release show on Strange Mono. Press builds improvised worlds with saxophones, flutes, throat singing, whistles, bells, and more, drawing on looping, delays, ring modulation, distortion, and amplification. Side A layers four saxophone parts in expansive loops. Side B centers on tenor sax, which is not his usual horn, and ventures into synthesis approaches that inform future work. The textures can turn funky, and the evolving pedal setup feels almost alive. Accessibility information: there is a ramp into the lobby, then seven stairs lead into the theater. Supported by a sponsorship grant from the Penn Treaty Special Services District.

    feeble little horse

Union Transfer, 1026 Spring Garden St, Philadelphia · verified Oct 4
    See details

feeble little horse brings the bitknot tour with Snuggle. The show spotlights the band’s third full-length, bitknot, a record written, arranged, produced, and recorded by Sebastian Kinsler, Lydia Slocum, and Jake Kelley across their homes in Pittsburgh. Built on the tension between human impulse and a culture of convenience, the album fuses gritty and digital textures, balancing buoyant arrangements and Slocum’s wandering reflections with catchy melodies, waves of noise, a surge of synths and samples around a guitar-forward core, and some of Kelley’s most precise drums to date. The artwork nods to classic core memory matrices, suggesting a wired grid where each bit holds a hidden detail, and the songs search for new ways of connection and interdependence beyond material self-sufficiency in a world that blends offline life and the web. This event welcomes all ages. There is a strict ticket limit, and orders that exceed it may be canceled without notice. For ADA assistance email UTassistance@bowerypresents.com. Halloween investigation of the Selma mansion

Selma Mansion of Norristown PA, 1301 W Airy St, Norristown · verified Oct 4
    See details

Experience a Halloween paranormal investigation inside the historic Selma Mansion in Norristown, Pennsylvania, and trade crowded parties and staged frights for an authentic exploration of a home with more than two centuries of history. Built in 1794 in the Federal style and tied to the Knox and Fornance families, the mansion is well known for reported activity that continues to unsettle and intrigue. Accounts include the sudden scent of roses linked to the kindly presence of Mrs. Fornance and the distinct feeling of being watched. A shadowed figure has been seen pacing near the study, thought by some to be Revolutionary War General Andrew Porter or a soldier still making his rounds. Unexplained knocks, whispered voices, distant shouts and heavy footsteps have echoed through empty hallways. Doorbells ring without cause, fully charged batteries fail without warning, and quick-moving shadows slip from room to room only to vanish when pursued. This is an investigation focused on real history, not a haunted house with actors or special effects. Participants use the kinds of tools seen on television, and a small group size encourages everyone to take an active role. Stay with the group for a shared search, or, if you prefer, step off on your own to test the darkness. Encounters with the unexplained are possible, and the experience can linger long after the night ends.

In 2024 they released the fan-funded Voyage alongside a companion book of stories, artwork and lyrics, and the album has surpassed 7 million streams on Spotify. Across their catalog they now reach more than 628,000 monthly listeners and generate over 3.7 million streams each month. Their newest release, Ends of the Earth, stretches their signature sound into bold territory, exploring everything from eighteenth century crimes to mythic beasts said to dwell in the American wilderness. Look for tight harmonies, driving folk rock and a group pushing the edges of its craft. Proud digital natives and avid gamers, they performed at the opening of the 2025 Pokémon Europe International Championships where they debuted Face the World written for the occasion. They also collaborate with the gaming community through appearances in the annual Jingle Jam hosted by The Yogscast and through their LongestJohnsGaming streaming channel. With over half a million YouTube subscribers and a touring history that spans the UK, Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand, they head into 2026 with extensive plans across the UK, the United States, Europe and Canada, continuing to share their modern take on traditional folk with audiences worldwide.

FREE Sounds In The Leaves Crystal Bowl Sound Bath - A Multi-Sensory Immersion

Mount Laurel Library, 100 Walt Whitman Ave, Mt Laurel
    Free

Experience a free, multi-sensory crystal bowl sound bath at Mount Laurel Library that offers a soothing hour of harmonic tones paired with gentle nature-inspired elements to support balance and calm. The session centers on the vibrational qualities of crystal singing bowls, which are described as helping to release tension and disharmony in body, mind, and spirit while encouraging relaxation, rejuvenation, and healing. Each bowl is associated with an energy center, aiming to cleanse and restore the system at a deep level. As participants rest comfortably, the layered sounds can encourage a deeply relaxed state where restorative effects may unfold. Research cited in the event description notes that the brain responds quickly to natural sights and sounds, so this nature-infused approach is designed to enhance the meditative experience and promote mental clarity. The overview of sound healing further explains that specific vibrations can help clear blockages and support the flow of energy physically, emotionally, and spiritually, often leaving attendees feeling refreshed. Please bring a yoga mat or blanket and a pillow for comfort. Chairs are available for anyone who prefers to sit. You are welcome to bring crystals and extra water to charge, and comfortable clothing is recommended. This event is free with registration, no library card is required, and all are welcome. If you are unfamiliar with the venue, consider giving yourself a little extra time to get settled. The description also highlights Rebecca Zarnawski, a Reiki Master, intuitive coach, sound healer, and IPHM accredited practitioner whose work blends Reiki, sound healing, and intuitive coaching to support emotional release, balance, and self-empowerment.
