As part of Hollywood Summer Nights, the big screen lights up with Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver, marking its 50th anniversary. Robert De Niro portrays Travis Bickle, a restless night-shift cabbie in 1970s New York who drifts into vigilantism in a bid to cleanse the city of what he sees as its worst elements. This four week summer playgroup series is designed for young children ages 18 months to 5 years. Each session features unstructured art making, sensory activities, and hands on projects in a calm and welcoming setting where children can create, play, and connect with others. The once weekly format over four meetings gives little ones time to settle in, build confidence, and find a comfortable routine. A caregiver stays for the session and takes part in the activities.

Keep the America250 spirit rolling with a relaxed group ride that celebrates the simple freedom of bicycling, from childhood adventures to the ease of modern e-bikes. Beginning at Residence Inn Philadelphia Bala Cynwyd, riders are greeted, fitted to e-bikes, and given a brief orientation before heading out together along scenic trails and riverfront paths around the Philadelphia area. The focus is on enjoying the ride and reflecting on how bicycles have shaped personal independence, community life, and moments in our nation’s history. The experience lasts about 90 minutes and includes a local guide, e-bike rental, helmet, a small bike bag, a lock, bottled water, and a nostalgia-inspired snack, plus participation in the KlineRentNride 250 Mile Challenge. The cost is $40 per person, with everything included. Online reservations are required. Group size is limited to six riders per session to keep the experience personal.

Root Down Brewing Company in Phoenixville hosts a weekly cornhole tournament with a $5 entry fee and cash awards for first and second place. Teams are reshuffled at random each week, so you can arrive solo or with a friend. Each night stands on its own, and you can participate as often as you like. No advance registration is needed. Late arrivals cannot be added once play is underway, so plan to be on time. The format is double elimination with matchups assigned at random. Teams are drawn using cards and team sizes are set based on turnout. Games are played to 21 points with no win by two. Boards are placed 27 feet apart and marked, and players should keep an eye on spacing throughout play. Keep your foot behind the front of the board when you throw, and any bag that touches the ground is out of play. Scoring uses a differential system, with three points for a bag in the hole and one point for a bag on the board. For example, if one side lands two in the hole and the other lands two on the board, the difference is four points to the first side. Players may throw from either side of the board without restriction. When your match ends, report the winning team to the organizer.
