Recognized as the longest standing queer open mic in the country, this gathering offers a welcoming space for LGBTQIA+ performers at the Church of St. Luke and The Epiphany. Launched in New Jersey by Stephen Jones and spoken word artist and playwright Pandora Scooter, it saw William Way become the new host in 2025 and is now hosted by Scooter’s child, The ZanyThing. All performing art forms are invited, including poetry, music, drag, and storytelling. Sharing the bill, Accessory is the solo project of Chicago songwriter and multi-disciplinary artist Jason Balla. His work balances optimism and melancholy, blending intimate acoustic elements and close-mic’d vocals with electronic mutation. The debut album Dust was crafted largely on equipment he built at home, welcoming the incidental sounds of daily life into layered arrangements. Piano-centered writing, tied to a family heirloom, guides songs that examine memory, relationships, and empathy across lo-fi tenderness, electro-acoustic textures, and feedback-kissed experimentation, seeking meaning and human contact in an age of apathy.

PhilaMOCA presents a night with Otto Benson alongside Sweet Baby Jesus. Benson, a Brooklyn musician and recording artist who first drew notice online as a teen under the name Memo Boy, now explores introspective, dreamlike sounds that fuse emotional openness with experimental textures. His release Peanut is his first project centered on vocals, expanding from a catalog known for heartfelt, exploratory instrumentals. Conceived as a gentle companion for travels across America, the record invites quiet comfort, self reflection, and a touch of mystery.

PhilaMOCA presents a vibrant pairing of Japan’s Minyo Crusaders with Philadelphia’s Mariposas Galácticas. Minyo Crusaders reimagine the min’yo folk tradition by weaving in Latin, jazz and Afro-influenced grooves, a direction that took shape when bandleader Katsumi Tanaka delved into his musical roots after the 2011 Tohoku earthquake. Lead singer Freddie found his voice in min’yo after hearing a song from his hometown on television, shifting from jazz to join Tanaka in forming the group in 2011 in Fussa near the Yokota Air Base. Early jams unfolded in the Banana House, once part of the U.S. military facilities, and the band’s 2017 debut won strong praise in Japan before receiving an international release on Mais Um in 2019. Touring quickly expanded to major European stages including Trans Musicales, Le Guess Who and Oslo World Music, followed by Womadelaide and Womad New Zealand. Since 2022, they have performed 60 shows across 20 countries at festivals such as Primavera Sounds Bogota, Roskilde, Fusion, Womad UK, Greenman, Lowlands, Sziget and Best Kept Secret, firmly establishing the band within Japan’s global music landscape. The Times awarded four stars and noted how swiftly their set had the room dancing. Mariposas Galácticas is an eight-piece Cumbia Klezmer Punk outfit from Philadelphia. Drawing on South American and Jewish heritage, the band honors Indigenous Andean roots while charging ancient Jewish melodies with punk energy. Their repertoire blends original songs with classics that cross languages, cultures and genres, channeling a contagious, rebellious spirit on the dance floor.

Live and Local, presented by 4333 Collective, brings a free, all ages concert experience to the waterfront at Spruce Street Harbor Park. Philly Moon Jams brings a gentler Drum Circle Edition to Penn Treaty Park, featuring Keegan Tawa, DJ Shango, and Kelsey & Friends. The evening begins with a calm set from Keegan, with Kelsey of Spirit Lab helping hold the intention for a quieter vibe. After that, the circle opens for communal drumming, and DJ Shango closes the night. Attendees are invited to bring their own drums, flow props, and something comfortable to sit on, arriving with a mindset of calm to help set the tone. A shared fire circle and plenty of space to flow remain part of the experience, with a slower pace that puts extra emphasis on percussion based on recent community feedback. Keep setups simple and low key. The park is dark, so soft perimeter lighting is recommended. Fire spinning is planned with a strong focus on safety, and white gas is required.
