Emergency responders can build practical skills for handling incidents involving mobile food vendors in this free, two-hour course taught through Butler Community College. Led by instructor Dave Braun, the session explores how the food truck industry operates, key permitting and inspection practices, relevant NFPA standards, and typical fuel and auxiliary systems found on these units. Participants review frequent fire causes and hazards, then work through response tactics with a focus on responder safety, hazard recognition, incident management, and fire suppression methods. The class will be held at Independent Fire Co. Students must be 16 or older. Enrollment requires at least 12 and is limited to 24. Pre-registration is required. A completed Training Authorization Form must be brought to the first class or entry will be denied, and walk-ins are not accepted.

A no-cost weekly group offers a welcoming space for anyone living with loss to find companionship, empathy, and community. Sessions are facilitated by Emily Kahn, MSW, a member of the Bloomsburg Public Library social work team, who brings years of experience supporting people through end-of-life concerns and aims to make conversations about death and dying more comfortable. Each meeting includes bibliotherapy, using books and stories to support mental well-being. The group recognizes that grief, including anticipatory grief, is deeply individual, yet sharing with others can ease the weight. It acknowledges the emotional ups and downs that can feel unpredictable, confusing, or isolating, along with practical tasks such as handling finances, wills, and death certificates that can feel overwhelming but familiar to many who have faced similar losses. This program is nonreligious, and people of any faith background or none are welcome to speak from their own experience. Performances run all evening and the focus on shopping local highlights the creativity and neighborly spirit of the community.
