The inaugural LHU Fall Classic presents a reverse 50K on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, starting at mile 31 and finishing in Ohiopyle. The course begins in the Hidden Valley and Somerset area, then heads south along the trail to its terminus in Ohiopyle. The entire route stays on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail and features more than 4,700 of ascent and 6,200 of descent. Participants will count down the mile markers from 31 to 0 and finish just beyond the gate at the trail’s end. Finishing in Ohiopyle instead of a remote trailhead allows for a post race celebration in Ohiopyle.

At Roxbury Bandshell, The Stiletto Network presents the seventh annual community walk supporting efforts to end domestic violence. Step into the Old Stone Jail in Ebensburg, a Pennsylvania landmark built in 1872 that once confined some of the region’s most dangerous criminals. Its past includes the unexplained 1884 disappearance of a prisoner from a locked cell and the execution of eleven men on the gallows, with accounts of sudden cold drafts and faint screams that seem to linger in the halls. WSPI presents a true paranormal investigation through the cell blocks, the execution site, and other noted hotspots. Two formats are available. The regular ghost hunt provides a four hour deep dive into the jail’s most active areas and suits all experience levels, while the VIP option extends the experience to seven hours and adds three hours of exclusive, crowd-free access for late night exploration.

Haunted Rooms America presents an immersive ghost hunt at the Grand Midway Hotel in Windber, Pennsylvania, with an Overnight VIP option for those who want to stay on site. This storied property began in the late 1880s as lodging for coal miners near the railroad, later operated as a secret brothel, then a funeral parlour, then a bar, before falling into disuse. In 2000 it was bought online, and the renovations stirred activity. Witnesses reported a soot-covered man in miner’s overalls walking the second-floor hallway and vanishing around a corner. A guest who had left flowers in the dining room later awoke back home in California to a miner thanking her before disappearing. One of the hotel’s most tragic tales dates to 1911, when eighteen-year-old Martha Selinsky was struck in the throat by a steel pipe while watching fireworks from the second-floor porch. The local fire company concealed the truth for decades, and accounts persist of Martha appearing in windows and moving through the halls. The roof bears the Guinness World Record for the largest Ouija board, and the Canopy Room beneath it is associated with a spirit known to attack those who try to use one. Reports throughout the building include furniture tossed across rooms, objects shifting on their own overnight, drifting cold spots in empty corridors, and the sound of a bouncing ball from a sealed storage room where no ball has ever been found. The experience features private after-hours access inside the Grand Midway Hotel, guidance from a Haunted Rooms America team member, organized vigils and experiments, access to paranormal investigation equipment, time to explore independently, and snacks and refreshments. Overnight VIP guests receive a themed room, extended investigation time, and breakfast. General Admission is $129 per person, and the Overnight VIP for two is $399. Capacity is limited.

Celebrate the season with a Halloween-inspired benefit ride on the loop along the Ghost Town Trail. Riders depart from the YPCC Ebensburg Trailhead and complete roughly 35 miles in total, returning to the starting point. Festive colors, makeup, and costumes are welcome as long as they do not interfere with bike safety. Helmets are recommended, and participants should be prepared to ride independently by bringing their own water and snacks. This is a casual outing rather than a race, and riders are advised to maintain a pace near 8 miles per hour or be ready to finish in about five hours. After the ride, participants can gather for food and drinks at Coal Country Brewing. There is no entry fee, and optional donations benefit the CCCRA Friends of the Trails program to help care for the Ghost Town Trail.

Expect several steep sections and about a 100 yard rock scramble up Sam’s Run before arriving at the falls. Wear sturdy hiking boots, and consider bringing poles and other suitable hiking gear for the terrain.

An eerie circus storyline returns as the GhostTracers reopen tryouts after their leader, Adam, was seized by the ghost clowns of the Walter L. Main Circus last year. The local paranormal team is back to investigate the Ghost of the Museum, and only one hopeful investigator will earn a permanent spot. With the power knocked out, the tour unfolds in total darkness lit only by lanterns. Teams gather clues, encounter spirits who may share their tales or leap out with scares, and work together to send the haunting back where it came from. Admission is $15 per person. Ages 12 and up. A photo opportunity with Ruby, a Supernatural Impala tribute car, will be available. Capacity is limited.

A nighttime Halloween ride features registration at the office before departure. The ride lasts about two hours, and park policies along with all MRTR rules apply. As the lights dim and the atmosphere shifts, explore both through free roaming and guided investigations, searching for the spirits that linger in quiet rooms, dark corners, and shadowed hallways. HeXenfest 2026: Return of the Witch brings its celebration of the witchy arts back to the Bottle Works Ethnic Arts Center in Johnstown, PA. Planning is underway, and vendor applications are currently open. More details will be shared as the event schedule and activities are finalized.

The sixth annual Quarry Shack 5 Miler brings a festive Halloween vibe to Ghost Town Trail with a nighttime out and back on the Rexis Branch. The course begins just beyond the gate by the old train at the Rexis trailhead, follows the right side of the trail for 2.5 miles, turns around just past Red Mill Bridge, then returns to the start. It is a fully closed rail-trail course with no road crossings, featuring a gentle, steady climb on the way out and a smooth downhill on the way back. For safety, participants are asked to stay to the right except when passing. Personal lighting is required, such as a headlamp or handheld, since the trail is dark aside from some lighting at key areas. Halloween decorations line the route, and costumes are encouraged for extra fun, with no jump scares on the course. A single water stop sits under a pavilion near the turnaround, with marked signage and a trash can placed for easy cup disposal. A start and finish arch with Quarry Shack themed banners is planned if conditions allow. The race name nods to a historic quarry shack about 2.25 miles from the start, a landmark that even appeared in the film The Boonies. Post-race amenities include water and snacks, along with plenty of photo opportunities at the start and finish. Trail cameras may capture night-vision images during the run, and finish-line video will be recorded to share afterward. Awards recognize the top three male and female overall in the run, plus the top three in each age group: 10 and under, 11–14, 15–19, 20–29, 30–39, 40–49, 50–59, 60–69, and 70+. The walk division awards the top three male and top three female overall, along with two age categories, 45 and under and 46 and over. No duplicate awards are given, and awards are not mailed. To be eligible, everyone must finish under their own power. In particular, children must complete the course themselves. Results are chip timed with a mass start and chip finish, and bibs should be worn on the front for accurate reads. Registration uses tiered pricing with a higher day-of rate. Day-of signups are available by cash or check only, and credit cards are not accepted on race day. Children 10 and under can register for free before registration closes, then have a small fee on race day. Event shirts are an optional paid add-on and must be picked up in person. Race guidelines prioritize safety and courtesy. Please bring your own lighting, keep headphones at a reasonable volume, and place stroller lights if using a stroller. The party embraces a return to Vice City and Leonida, capturing an 80s feel from the days when Tommy Vercetti ruled the streets. Attendees are encouraged to wear Vice City or GTA themed outfits. An $80 cash prize will be awarded to the best dressed, presented as enough to buy the game when it releases. A tongue in cheek note even hints at calling it quits if there is another delay. There is a $5 cover. Drink specials will be available, and the kitchen stays open late. Expect playful references to lowering that wanted level.

A bridal expo at Sunnehanna Country Club is tailored for engaged couples at any stage of planning.
